hello can anyone on the forum please tell me from experience if the 2.0 tdi common rail engines are all the same internals or does the 143kw motor have different pistons,con-rods etc to the 170kw
i have a 170 s-line bought as a cat d light frontal bought of internet auction to my regret engine took a dig into cambelt & engine tossed.....been sat about for months now and losing more value :zx11: local breakers yard to me has a good motor with different codes mines a cah 170 breakers is a cag 143 and low genuine miles at a good price,my question is can i fit the cag 143kw motor into my cah 170 s line and re-map it to 170 or can i use the block & head off this engine to fix mine or do i need to find a engine with correct engine code if not compatible

any advice much appreciated as cannot find much info on the net regarding engine swaps, engine codes etc ?

thank-you.

Engine codes CAGA , CAGB , CAHA , CAHB , CAGC , CMEA

Have the same p/n crankshaft ...
Have the same p/n con rods ...
Have the same p/n piston ...
Have the same p/n camshaft ...
Have the same p/n cylinder head ...

But you're talking to someone who is an owner and looking at data only :o ...

PM external email will give you info and you do your own research/cross ref and hope another gives you a better answer :) ...

Click on Gupsterg's username at the top left of his post, and a wee window will pop up. The second option down on the left column of that wee window is 'Private Message' - that opens a window similar to the one you reply to threads with, for you to put your message/email address into and then send it so that only Gupsterg can see it. :)

Good luck getting your engine sorted out.

CAGA and CAGB are the same base unit (head/block assembly) as a CAHA and CAHB but there are some age break points.

I know this is an old post.
I have just purchased AUDI A6 avant tdi 2.0 common rail 136 bhp.I was wondering if the only difference between the engines is the size of the turbo so a straight swap of turbo would give a power increase.
Turbo part numbers
03L145701 (http://www.partsbase.org/parts/aud-03l145701/) 136bhp cagb

03L145702E (http://www.partsbase.org/parts/aud-03l145702e/) CAHA,CAHB

If ok is it a straight swap

Apart from having a stronger clutch the CAHA has a different turbo with twin intercooler system and a different ECU map.
