Hi all
after a bit of help with cruise control.
I have been told off audi I need part number 8k0953502d but in my impatience for a reply I purchased one with part number 8k0953502bd
Does anyone if this will still work on mine. The stalk unit look identical. Mine has speed control for wipers, trip computer switch and both these do
is there any real difference in the two that will stop it working on my car
thanks
john

I don't know the difference, but the one I bought and which was specified by Audi dealer for my 2008 S line saloon was V8KO 953 502 BD. It was 137.81 plus vat. I also bought the trim V8KO 953 512 E6. That is the cowl.I hope this helps.

I can't believe audi make so many different kinds.
Do you think the one I have will work?
cheers

I assume you've checked that your steering module is compatible with cruise?

With having the multi functional steering wheel and dis, the comments I have read elsewhere suggest it should be fine. Also when I rang audi for a list of parts ther said I would need just the cruise switch and lower cowl.

On the b8 a4 you need the whole switch pack as it comes as one ie indicator, wiper and cruise stalks.

yeah that's what I've got. The one I got ends with 'bd' but audi said it should just end in 'd'
the rest of the part number is exactly the same.
All the functions are the same as well, speed control wipers, trip computer control. Etc.
do you think the switch unit I've bought will work
cheers

Quick look online - the one ending just D is for cars with adaptive cruise control, bd is for normal cruise.

On your BD does the wiper stalk push away from you? If so, you have the pack for the Avant.

If Audi told you you needed D, then hopefully they would've got this from your VIN.

Getting differing results online.

going by ebay BD is for A4 saloon and D is for an A5.

online results seem to differ for the part number but two different ebay listings said one for the a4 and other the a5.

It should work, if not just send it back.

Good news as I'm about to attempt this myself. I take it the programming is done within the VCDS?
is there anything else you need to check for compatibility or is it just a matter of getting the right stalk and programming?

Is had mine put on VCDS first and the option of cruise was there, so just bought the right stalk and lower cowel and got it programmed.
I took a chance with the stalk and I found a cheap one on eBay but the code audi give was different by one letter but all is working fine.
Hill hold assist next because that option was there to be switched on, hopefully

Could you get the part number of your steering ecu just to be on the safe side?

One thing you need to check, does you high beam work, and stay on?

I realised about 2months after having mine fitted that it wouldn't, it turned out they changed the part just after my 2008 model was built. My high beam stays on by me pushing the stalk forward, it then clicks into place. With the revised part I think you push it and it activates and pops back.

I took it back to the installer and he was surprised by this, but ordered the new part, and now all is fine.

Ah you learn something new everyday - I thought the spring back stalk was only brought into the A3 as I had the same problem.

Just tried it and it doesn't stay on,

what was the fix for this? New part or a full new unit?

You would need the stalk from an older B8 I'm guessing.

Also I think that is what the D and BD were for in previous posts.

Not sure if I know as an installer did it all. But think if you ring an audi parts department at a dealer and give your vin they should be able to tell you

just an idea here:
do you think its possible to swap the idicator stalks over from original unit to cruise unit or take the cruise stalk off and fit it to original unit with the circuit board

Guest 2
06-08-2013, 10:50 PM
Might be possible with the indicator stalk but probably impossible with the cruise stalk as it obviously requires different hardware.

I know on the A3 where the two indicator stalks are different it's not possible as it requires a new style of slip ring or something.

Can you not just return your parts for a refund if they're incorrect?

i like a challenge ha ha
ill try the indicator stalk swap first but wont all the hardware be on the printed circuit board which looks like it can be unscrewed and changed between

Guest 2

Well the hardware is there for the indicator obviously but not sure if the non cruise switchpack has the bits for the cruise stalk.

Suppose if you have some time to spare then try.

Managed to successfully change the indicator and cruise stalks into the existing switch unit and the high beam now stays on when pushed forward, it locks into place like it should
there was 1 different part in each, slightly different shape, which I'm assuming hold the stalk back in 'on' position
really chuffed it work proper now

Friend of mine is fitting cruise to his B8, does he only need the new switch pack and can re-use the original slip-ring?

It's a highline ecu so sorted there.

Super, he was worried cos he bought a swtich pack without the slip ring and didn't know whether it was needed but thats grand.

How much was the lower cowl?

Quick Q about the switch pack you fitted, was this to a car with halogen headlamps? Does the high beam stay on when you put it on or does the stalk spring back?

My car had halogen at the time. Now has xenons.
The switch pack I fitted spring back and wouldn't stay on. So I took out the cruise part on the new switch pack and fitted it to the existing switch pack I had.
If you look at both of them its some thing to do with the bit of white plastic you can see on the stalk
It was a bit fiddly to change but works all the same
hope this make sense

Yep I had same problem! Luckily my installer changed it free of charge. My car is may 2008. I think all cars after june spring straight back after activatin high beam. He had said my car was actually the first b8 he had seen where it stays in place and didn't know about the early ones being different
