Hi I am thinking of buying the above car to replace my tired old Volvo 940 2.3 se.
What faults, if any, should I be looking for.
Apart from wet carpets which seems to be common.
The car I looked at has a slight clunk from the rear end on heavy acceleration probably the rear diff. I had a 90 Quattro some years back and it did this too.
Thanks all advice appreciated.

Hi
Common problems to look out for are loud whirring noises under acceleration and make sure all the ESP features like Traction Control, ABS etc are in working order, because if they are not they cost a bomb to fix!
Thanks, Paul

quattro doesn't use traction control.

The clunk in the rear could be anything, maybe a bushing? Best get it checked out. The rear diffs on these are excellent, there should be no probs there - if there is walk away because you can garantee the rest of it is just as abused and neglected.

Check the diff seals where the shafts enter, make sure all electrics work as there really annoying to fix. Check the tyres are all wearing evenly. Check exhuast, there close to £600 to replace!!!! (you can get cheaper patern items but they don't last very long). Check front springs are not broken.

There's a few out there so if it seems like it's not right just walk away.
