Hi all,

Already own a 2011 A4 Avant and am posted (in the Forces) to Germany next month. Looking to buy an A1 Sportback (tax free ) and have a couple of questions that I could do with answering so that I don't fall foul of the German motoring laws.

I'll be ordering a UK spec car from a UK dealer and then exporting to Germany. In order for it to be authorised for use over there I have to run it through the BFG (British Forces Germany) scheme which includes a TUV (German MOT) test. Although the car will be RHD I need to have lights that are legal to use - for the front it is easy - I can get Xenons and, as they can form a flat beam, I'm good to go (Germany recently changed the rules on this).

For the rear lights it is a little more complicated. I understand I've got to have 2 Fog and Reversing lights (strictly speaking you have to have either 2 or one that is on the opposite side to the UK). As I'll be getting a UK spec car I need to know:

1. Do A1 Sportback's have 2 Rear Fog Lights and 2 Rear Reversing lights?

2. If the standard ones don't do the models fitted with LED lights have 2?

In the ground rush to moving overseas I'll probably not have time to go to a UK dealer and have a look so any help that anyone can post will be very gratefully received.

Cheers,

From memory I'm pretty sure on the LED tails there are two of each.

If you can wait until tomorrow, I'll check on my Mum's A1 Sportback as I'll be driving it. Mum's is the 1.4TFSi Sportback with "Sport" level trim - are there any differences in rear lighting from model to model? I'll try and report back late afternoon/early evening tomorrow.

Xenon equipped cars will have led tail lights, halogen headlights will have normal filament rear clusters.

Thanks - My Mother's A1 has Halogen lights.

Well, if that's the case I can at least report back on the standard version.

That would be great, thanks Rob.

I would say based on this pic, it has 2 of each 1 each side.

OK J_B204 - I think the answer is what you wanted.

As stated, Mum's A1 is a September 2012 Sportback "Sport" 1.4TFSi with standard lighting.

I checked an hour or so ago - it has reversing lights and fogs on both sides. I hope it's clear on the photos - sorry for the poor quality of the pix, I'd meant to take my DSLR with me but forgot and had to rely on my iPhone.

DW58,

Really sorry that I didn't reply earlier especially after you'd gone to so much effort to help. Thanks very much, the info (and pics!) were exactly what I needed.

Thank again, I really appreciate it.
