Just added speed cams* and other POI's to the discover pro.

This link and google translate will see you through.

Google Translate (http://tinyurl.com/bt2qsz5)

*The ironic thing is that I drive so carefully now to get high MPG that (touch wood) the speed cams are irrelevant :)

I am interested in adding "safety cameras" as POI on my Discover Pro.

Can I ask which database of Uk cameras did you use?? Also can you confirm i have to convert that database using VW NavCompanion to a format the Discover Pro recognises?

I am a little nervous at adding third party software to the nav system so would appreciate your comments.

many thanks

Guy,

The Discover accepts three forms of POI database.

.asc is one and I used that. I subscribed to the pocketgps service and downloaded the speed camera database.

I created/modified speed camera icons (39x39px) and used the system I linked to. It is not totally clear at the start but after a couple of goes it is straightforward.
It takes your .asc file and the images and creates a file which is saved to a memory card.

AFAIK the Pro system only accepts two forms of update. Map and POI

You have to insert the card and go to software update and press 'go' The system will look for maps or POI files. Neither is really a software update at all and there is no risk. Both process are part of what VW want you to do and in the event of a calamity VW can reset any changes under warranty..

You're a star! Many thanks - I had the file arrangement wrong on the SD card.

What a great piece of kit the DiscoverPro is!!!!!

Now have you tried the "Image Navigation".........................Bildnavigation < Discover Pro < Volkswagen NAV-Companion < Volkswagen Deutschland (http://www.volkswagen.de/de/navigation/discover-pro/bildnavigation.html) ?!?!!?!?!?!?

many thanks again

Hello,

I have followed the instructions (many thanks!) and got this to work for the speed camera database. There seems to be no way though to add a warning chime or voice when the speed cameras are approached (.ogg files in TomTom)?

Just a quick question why do you have to go to vw.de and not vw.uk,the reason I ask is that google translate does not seem to translate when I click on the POI link even when the toolbar informs otherwise. Have tried this with both mac and windows without success any help would be appreciated thanks.

Hi,

No warning sound on Discover. Install camera alert app on IPhone or android and the same database will give audible warnings.

remember, a French policeman will confiscate your wordily belongings if they find speed cams on sat nag :)

I went with vw.de because I don't think vw.uk has this facility.

Not sure what the issue is here. Google translate is a wind up here. What I did was get all the dialogue and use a separate browser tab to translate the text.

Is the issue on this part of the site?

Hi Lozzer,
sorry if I was unclear what I was trying to convey is why is it only on vw.de and not on vw.uk surely it,s not a big deal to have the same info on vw.uk as on vw.de .

I can't get the nav companion site to work... It keeps coming back with a german error message that translates as "Due to prolonged inactivity, the user's session.

Please reload the page to start a new session."

I really give up with VW and their attitude to UK customers! I'll buy a BMW next time as they seem to look after their customers far more than VW

Steve, what POI's are you trying to create and for what system (standard nav or Discover Pro). I ask as if it's the latter and you just need speed cams, I might be able to help you.

If you need POI or instructions for uploading to VW Discover PRO check instruction:

Upload POI do VW (http://en.poipoint.eu/jak-wgrac-poi?GPS=VW)
or
POI for VW (http://en.poipoint.eu)

Hope this helps you out
