Pulled up behind a 60 plate Q5 S-line tonight. It had the LED rear lights but none of them were operating.

Instead, it had some low-rent and rather puny tail, brake and indicator lights in the bumper.

What's that all about? Is it an option? If so, why would you? The standard LED cluster is a lovely thing.

I know when the boot is slightly ajar the main clusters dont work and the little ones work as you describe.

I remember this on a '11 plate courtesy car.

Could be it. But they must be driving with a warning graphic....

Strange, but I've never noticed the lower lights before.

Yeah at night they turn into tail lights when you have the boot open aswell.

I'm not sure why they're configured like that, seems pretty stupid to me.

Just incase anyone wonders, were talking about the light strips just above the towing eye cover

Yep - it even tells you about it in the handbook. I think the idea is that if you stop at night and open the boot lid you are still showing red lights to the rear. To answer the original question, yes the DIS should show a boot lid open warning but some people are oblivious to these things.
