Hi everybody,

Just introducing myself and my Vdub before I start bending your ears about this and that.
My VW is a 1999 Transporter T4 2.5 88hp LWB van that I've converted to a camper. More of a stealth camper really which also doubles as a general utility vehicle as it seems to have a couple of kayak's in the back most of the time now.
I'm into surfing, kayaking and a little bit of green laning. All things that benifit from having a good camper, UV and tow vehicle.

Here my little beauty now,

So hello and hope to be chatting soon.

Rich.

Nice pictures, never been to lynton, isnt there a good reef break around there?

I converted a VW trasporter a while ago, a 1983 one, was a great ride, but only a 1600 diesel engine, wouldn't pull skin off rice pudding:zx11:

I've been looking at the T4 etc and they look great and should go faster than 50mph which is all my van would do with a downhill and a tail wind:biglaugh:

Not sure about the reef, it was my first time their:D

T4's are very good, and the 2.5's are quite powerful, mines putting about 110-120hp which can surprise a few cars every now and then. Plus it hardly notices hills, will get to 80+ quick enough and gives you about 35mpg while doing that. Just want to see if I can get a little more power with going mad. If you upgrade the injectors and give it a remap it'll be up to a very respectable 155hp:approve:

I'm more into sleeping in it though, I want comfort while I'm stationary as well as enough power to get there stress free. I had a very low powered diesel van/camper before and it used to wide me up. You had to carry speed down hill to make it up the other side. Then the Police introduced speed cameras and placed them on these hills, that was the end of hat trick:(

Okay, here's some pics of the inside.

This is the roof showing the powered vents I made & fitted. You can also see the silver blinds. These are new and replace the black blinds in the next pictures.

This one shows my seat which holds the Eberspacher night heater. This keeps the cold nights from spoiling a good nights sleep.

And the other way around

These photos are old but I haven't got around the taking new photos of how it looks at the moment but things are more or less the same as this.

Features list.

Diesel fuelled heater
Powered roof vents
Loads of lights (lamps, LED and CCFL for mood lighting)
15" LCD TV (freeview to be installed soon)
DVD player
Cold running water and sink
Gas hob and grill
Full size double bed
Internal surfboard storage
Twin 110 amp/hr leisure batteries

Plus many other bits and bobs that make you smile:approve:

It's my home away from home. The whole thing was planned more around sleeping and safe surf board storage than being a true camper/day van but the layout works for me.:D

Check the T4 forum for many other conversions, some would put the professionals to shame.
