Well, had a pm from Mark ( MFGF) a week or so ago, saying he was in the Edinburgh area w/c 13th May for a day or so and would I like to meet up?

Of course I was happy to meet and put a face to the name of a long time regular, so said yes.

I actually put out a pm to a few of the local regulars to see if they were available, I thought we could make it a small VWAudi forum get together, unfortunately most couldn't make it.

However, Aly was up for it so it ended up being a trio of Audi's in the Edinburgh sunshine for a catch up chat, some forum talk, discussing all things Audi and some cool VCDS upgrades courtesy of Mark....All good.

As Mark was staying in Edinburgh city centre, I identified the Bridge Inn at Ratho as a good meeting place with a big enough car park ( no door dings ) & good food. It was probably around 7 or 8 miles out the city centre for Mark and around 30-40 miles for Aly and I to run from Cumbernauld / Stirling so a good compromise that seemed to work well.

It didn't turn out to be the best day for it ( although you wouldn't guess from the pics below ). It had been cloudy and overcast in the morning with serious rain, a little sleet later....Aly had said there was some snow fell in Stirling, bright sunshine, really gusty with more rain, followed by some sunshine later.....typical Scottish weather...lol

I ran through to Stirling and hooked up with Aly around 5.30 and we headed for the Bridge Inn arriving at 6pm, Mark arrived around 10 mins later and all cars parked up in a nice little line up.
Mark was kind enough to bring his laptop / cable and enabled horn chirp for Aly ( nice one ) and did a quick fault scan of the car

Mark's C7 was lovely and the 20" rotors were awesome, I was amazed at how well it soaked up the lumps n bumps even on Sline suspension.....beautiful car and a credit to its owner.
Aly's grille blacked out using plastidip looks awesome I think, especially on the gray / silver and looked quite menacing in my rear view. Its something I keep coming back to but don't think it would work on my Stratos blue somehow?

Had a good meal at the Bridge Inn and blethered for a few hours, then had a little run.

I keep thinking to myself how I want to go to an Auto box and Aly's car confirmed that. At that point Aly had to head home, Mark and I spent another 20 mins or so before heading off back our separate ways.

All in all a very pleasant 3 hours and great to actually "meet" forum friends.

Maybe the next time we can arrange a slightly bigger get together?

Hopefully Aly may jump in as I know he took some pics with his all singing all dancing camera as opposed to my phone pics.

Cheers :beerchug::beerchug:

Very nice to see a few members together!

Just out of interest, was Mark's rear bumper still in tact from the journey up? :biglaugh: :naughty: :buttkick:

Like I said in my PM Jim, if I see you during the summer you're welcome to have a test drive in mine, on one conditon, you keep it in S the whole time ;)

Hey Chris,
I know Mark's rear bumper scenarios have been well documented, but it was all looking really nice when I saw it last...lol

Lovely car and a pleasure to drive, beautiful soft leather, lots of toys, seats that just hug you forever....ok,ok I want one...lol

Almost felt embarrased offering my lowly 2.0 ( albeit remapped:approve: ) for a test drive......even though she's a lovely clean example. Mark did ask though if I was sure she'd done 103k miles as she still felt tight with no wobbles / creaks etc.....a nice compliment I guess.

As I said in my pm, If you're ever up this way, please let me know, it'd be great to catch up, see your car etc. Also if you need any help / recomendations for places to stay, or anything else I'd be happy to help.

It sounds like you all had a excellent time, I remember that little restaurant, just off the M8 by the Airport if memory serves me right?

I said to Mark this evening, 3 excellent cars all standing proud in a lineup not to be messed with. All 3 are excellent and a credit to you all!

I'm hoping to get to our regular hotel, Holiday Inn at Glasgow Airport as its right in the middle of where we need to be and literally seconds from the M8 and A737 down into Linwood.

I also said to Mark, if he's up in Scotland during August-ish I'm sure you wouldn't mind meeting up again, maybe creating a little convoy? ;)

As I said, 3 excellent looking cars, I wouldn't want to let the side down in my dirty A6 compared to those! ;)

Lovely pics, Jim! Yours and Aly's cars look pristine compared with my grubby example! My only excuse is a long drive North through sunshine, rain, torrential rain, hail and strong winds. Lame, I admit :)

It was great to meet up with you and to find that you are even more handsome in real life than on Facebook. Lol. Man crush? No idea what one is :) It was really good to meet you and Aly and to see the care and attention you have lavished onto your cars. Dinner was nice, too, and thanks to Aly for insisting on paying my bill. I don't accept payment for VCDS services as a matter of principle, but it would have seemed rude to refuse your kind and insistent offer. I am really grateful!!

It was great fun to get the chance to drive your cars and to compare them - being in your C6s gave me a few nostalgic moments! They are lovely cars!!!

Ha ha. I think I have had my share of new rear ends on this C7, Chris! Thankfully Jim and Aly didn't look too closely and spot the marks still on the rear diffuser or the single small flaw in the paint finish. I know they are there, though, and I cringe every time I clean it and spot them.

No need for embarrassment, Jim! Your car feels like new - tight and rattle/squeal free - and very (very very) clean!! Driving it was like getting back into a nice comfy pair of slippers - familiar and instantly pleasing. It was most certainly a compliment! Aly's car was lovely too - nice and smooth, with that gorgeous V6 burble.

It would be great if I can get back to Scotland when you are visiting, Chris! Let me know the dates and I will see if I can arrange a business trip for then...

Cheers!

Count me in please guys, I'm sure Aly would be up for it too :approve:

Perhaps I can try again & send a few pm's to some of the more local guys like Ruggedscot, McGill, and any others ( please excuse me if you don't see your name here......please add it if you'd be up for meeting a few of the fegular guys from the site )

Mark - I know what its like on long business trips away from home, done it for plenty of years. Sometimes you can crave company, a little banter, the craic and maybe a beer and a laugh or two to break the monotony, sometimes just to have a meal and collapse after a longggg day.

If you ever want to get together again and share a laugh or two I'm usually around, so please let me know. It'd be cool
