2 questions...Does the standard Navigation system cover Europe? and.....

Are the SD card holders always on the dash or are they sometimes in the glovebox?

Seen some models with SD cards on the dash...is that a new thing?

Standard Nav covers Europe.

Not sure about the older models - however recent A6s have 2 slots for SD cards in the dash, one for the SatNav and one for music/video.

Cheers. Most pics on line and in the latest brochure don't show these slots on the dash. If they arent on the dash, where are they?

That car with basic RMC and SD card nav had the slots on the dash.

The Sat Nav does cover Europe, however the French place names are very garbled - the more so the more polysyllabic they become. Chatillon-sur Seine sounds positively rude!!
I haven't sussed out yet why it should be like that. I can't believe that French people would accept it and yet why would Audi produce a French speaking SatNav for the English speaking market? Very strange.

Tech pack high may have the slots in the glovebox?

Yes they're behind that on Tech Pack High (3G+) cars.

RMC as per my first link have them visible.
