I got the chance to do some paint revival on another silver TT, following on from the success on the 7-yr old one. It was good to get the chance to work in a garage for a wee change.

Washing, Cleaning and Polishing
Sonus Grey Clay
Megs Last Touch (1:1)
Autobrite Tar and Glue Remover
CG Extreme Body Wash and Wax
Sonus + Megs pads, Menzerna 3.02.

Wheels
No wheel brightener needed as the wheels were only 3000 miles old. CG shampoo washed. Wheels cleansing and protection from JEFFS Acrylic Prime and Jett.

Windows
JEFFS Acrylic Prime, cleanse and protect

Paint Cleansing and Protection
The paint cleansing and protection was Zymol HD Cleanse and Zymol Carbon. There was no JEFFS Prime Acrylic or Trigger under the Carbon this time. The final spray again was Zymol Field Glaze, buffed with Poorboys DMTs.

The weather was variable but at the crucial photo times it was pouring, so no before and after pics outside. Having said that, the owner's garage was very accommodating and welcome.

Since the car was worked on over three different evenings, it needed a final wash before the Field Glaze and the owner filmed three very small clips showing the water sheeting and beading. For those interested, link below.

This gives you an idea of how the carnauba content in the wax closes its 'pores' and repels any wet attack on it. Following on from this level of treatment, the paintwork only has to be rinsed with an open low pressure hose and the water will just run off. The car is effectivley about 95% self-drying.

All in all, the gloss returned to this car immensely. The garage lights show this off quite well. This is effectivley the outcome on every car treated to this level of detailing, regardless of age and colour. Certainly more dramatic on the darker colours, but I'm pleased to have achieved this on another silver.

Hope you like the beading pics too.

Thanks for looking.

Man, I want to get my silver back to that kind of quality. Do you think a good treatment with a clay bar and Megs Q.D spray would be a marked improvement (bearing in mind she's never been clay'd before at all....)

don't be a tight bum, go out and get yourself some polish and wax ;)

give it a good wash with a decent shampoo (something liek CG citrus wash), dry it with a good M/F towel and clay. i've been told Megs QD is a good lube for clay, you probably would want quite a harsh one if its never ever been clayed, but i'd check that first :Blush2:

once clayed, i think you need to wash, rinse and dry again.

polish with something like AG SRP or CG CWW, seal it with a good sealent and top off with a good quality carnuba wzx like the CG xxx hardcore wax....just dont eat it as it is rather yummy smelling :Blush2:

You won't achieve the same improvement, but you will notice a big improvement after claying it. I was sceptical before I clayed my own car first, but there is a noticeable difference. All the people whose car's I've machined have said they noticed a big difference after claying, even on the 1 yr old A3 sportback.

To ensure removal of much of the previous products (and some more stubborn grime) on your paint, wash with an all purpose cleaner as your suds. Then the clay will continue to remove some of it, along with the solid bonded particles that you will be able to sense when you rub your fingers along the paint. Put your finger inside a crsipy sandwich bag to do this as you won't feel it with your bare skin. After the wash, make sure you dry thouroughly.

An aggressive clay will probably induce scratching, scuffing and general marring on your clearcoat. Most people generally use aggressive only when they are going to machine polish. I've settle on SONUS Green for my claying and it's a mild one. It will still make a good difference though on your car I would think. Meguiars Last Touch is a good lube that does not foam or get messy like some water+shampoo mixes.

Wash again and dry.

Your paint is then ready for a cleansing (Zymol HD Cleanse is immense, P21S Cleanser, Sonus paintwork cleanser ets). This normally provides extra gloss and mirror-like appearance ready for sealant or wax final stage protection.

Eshrules has mentioned a couple of good last stage products. I've got my own that I use and I've mentioned them in the thread, namely HD Cleanse (£25) and Zymol Carbon wax (£46). The wax will do you about 20ish applications on your car and adds a nice wetness to the clearcoat.

The whole process here should take approx 4- 6 hours.

Hope this helps,

JOHN

Thanks very much for your kind comments. Yes, it's amazing seeing cars' paint return to new (or better). That's the kick I get out of it.

Glad you're tuned in now. The path forward for you will be full of learning and no doubt satisfaction. If you're on other sections of the forum, make sure to prod people in the direction of the Detailing section. This section will get bigger as more and more VAG owners realise what can be done to their cars.

Coming soon will be guides on all the various stages of Detailing. Watch out for them, I may even try and get them posted up tonight.

Thanks again,

JOHN:beerchug:
