In my opinion I wouldn't trust the digital display, why they started doing this it baffles me.

You can get a dipstick retrofit for the B8 if you ever wish to see the true level.

It's all in the manual. I got the "Please add oil, 1 litre max" on the dashboard; the MMI showed empty. (Or bottom of the 'dipstick - which is what it really means) so I added 250mls. MMI showed 25%. I added another 250mls, MMI showed 50%. Added another 250mls, MMI showed 75%. Full bottle in, MMI showed 100% or max.

I'm convinced...

Yeah, have to admit I think the MMI level is a pile of poo too. The "min-max" level actually just represents the top 1 litre of engine oil inside there, so having it just above the halfway mark is probably the "ideal" level. Oil certainly is something you don't want to be overfilling...

Check with the dealer if there is, in fact, a dipstick for your car.

I have a 62 plate TDIe 163 and was told by the dealer that there simply isn't one to be had - or at least none outside the one used in their workshops!

Told the same for my S4.....what you need is for them to look at their worksop one and see if it matches up closely with any other car...for me the 3.0 petrol was too small a difference to see so I ordered that......as there is none listed for mine...as to why its all on the mmi now....german law regarding spilt oil from poorly fitted dipsticks apparently!!!
