2004 touran tdi one of the earlier ones.

I have a noise from the rear which is much more apparant at 50mph. Below 50mph and above 50mph its seems to dissappear but at 50 there is a whining noise.

This all started when osr brake was sticking and getting hot, I thought it had cooked the bearing.

Anyway new pads later and then new wheel bearings both on osr nsr and 2 new rear coils springs as they has broken and there is no difference.

I am 90percent sure its a noise from the back.

Anyone got any ideas?

Its not transmission as it makes no difference if I dip the clutch.

I may have to take it to crashers garage for diagnosis as I see he is only at Nottingham and I am near derby.

Worth having a look at the tyres, people with Golfs have experienced a rumbling noise for the rear due to rear suspension geometry being out, as you have had the springs replaced, this could be the problem. Look for uneven wear on the tyres, particularly on the inside edge.
