Hi guys,
I would like to buy a fault code reader but after visiting ebay I'm not sure which to get. My car is a W reg (2000) A6 Avant 2.5tdi se. I did see this reader (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Any-Car-Engine-Fault-Diagnostic-Scanner-Code-Reader-OBD-OBD2-CAN-BUS-D950-D900-/321115666724?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item4ac3fc3924) but it says diesel from 2004 (as do a few others on ebay) so I'm confused whether it will work for me or not. My local garage wants £40 just to scan so I want to buy my own to save money ;)

Is there a better OBD2 scanner than the one I linked for a similar price to suit my needs?

At the mo my car has no power and feels like it's in limp mode, My vw bora 1.9 tdi pd130 se can run rings around it :p

Cheers
Mike

I have a U280 fault code reader (plenty for sale on eBay or Amazon) which I've found great on my 2003 PD 130 A3 and a W reg Golf Mk4 I had as well as a 2001 plate T4 Transporter and a 1999 plate A4. They're about £20. Depending on how new your Passat PD 130 is it might work on that as well but you'll need a different one for the Passat's if it's got CANBUS wiring.

Thanks for the reply. In the end I bought a Vgate Scan VS450.

The codes I got were:
01318 Control Module for Injection pump (J399)
18259 -163 Powertrain Data Bus: Missing Message from ABS Controller P1851
00546 Data wiring fault: Static no communication

Now I need to work out how to fix it
