View Full Version : How Much Fuel Have you Put in?

My old golf mk6 had a 55 litre tank- I could fill it with 55 litres+ a couple in the filler nozzle which usually worked out to be over £70 to fill up.

my new golf (mk7 2.0 gt) apparently has a "55 litre tank with a 10 litre reserve" but I can't get it to take more than 45 litres at the petrol station.

This morning I'd driven 14 miles with the car on a "0 miles" range to empty the tank as much as I can and STILL only managed to squeeze 45 litres in the tank.

How much fuel is everyone else managing to get in?

according to parkers, the mk7 only has a 50 litre capacity, whereas the mk6 has a 55 litre capacity - this might be something to do with it?

Car handbook says 55

I must admit, when I saw the specs of the MK7 a few months ago, it was one of the things that puzzled me as to why the fuel tank was 5 litres smaller than the outgoing model. I can only assume that it's to do with either weight saving (although 5 litres don't exactly weigh much - approx 740 g per litre - so 3.7kg), or weight distribution (doubtful), aerodynamics (maybe the tank is shallower and therfore improves the underbody turbulance ?), or it's just that with the "claimed" economy, VW felt you didn't need as big a tank to cover the same amount of miles as in a MK5 or MK6 ?

Who knows !

Just filled up today, receipt says 46.2 litres and the range was indicating 65 miles at the time, which suggests approx 52-53 litres in total.

Remember reading somewhere the smaller tank was to make production easier.

Something to do with smaller engined cars having a revision to the old torsion beam rear
suspension .

Interesting you all seem to have diesels.

I have the 1.4l petrol engine with ACT and my last fill up with the distance down to 0 was 50.55 litres.

Lucky you didn't have to push your pride and joy into the Petrol Station Dan :D.....all the reputable Sites and VW themselves state your petrol model is also fitted with the 50 ltr. tank.....I too would prefer the extra capacity but it makes little difference when the Tsi 140 bhp could theoretically carry on for 600 miles plus.

I wonder if you managed to fill the expansion tank Dan?
