The road tax on Mrs D's car expires tomorrow. Her new Up! is 'in transit' so she's thinking of taking her Tigra off the road and declaring SORN. What is the rules regarding taking it to the dealer to trade it in? Do dealers lend trade plates in these cases?

Sorn it for now, when you need to drive it, tax it for 6 months and when you reach the dealer just refund the tax using a form from DVLA.

The only legal way to drive a car that's SORN is if it's being driven to a pre-booked MOT test, so you could ask the dealer to book it for an MOT on the day you're driving it there, then cancel the MOT once you arrive.

Or just ask the dealer if you can drop it off early and drive it there tomorrow.

Or ask them to collect it when they deliver your new one.

Thanks for the answers. Spoke to the dealer today. No firm delivery date yet so he suggests taxing the Tigra then claiming it back when the Up! arrives. He said he'll put some fuel in when it's delivered.
