Update from previous post.
The GT-Stat is now patent pending(fingers crossed)http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag63/ghawks100/th_G016.jpg (http://s1299.photobucket.com/user/ghawks100/media/G016.jpg.html)
Hello.
I fitted the GT-Stat in the bottom hose first. It didnt work...I made a school-boy error..I fitted it the wrong way round, but i didnt realise it at the time.Bugger.
Ive now fitted it in the top hose like paulf2.5tdi.All is working fine.I will run it for a while to make sure the flow is good an then i will try it back in the bottom hose again.Just to be different.

Thanks zollaf.
Driving round town(30-40mph) it takes 5miles to reach 90,but then sits bang on.how does that compare to yours paulf.how does it compare to normal thermostats situated in the normal place.
I dont think i will be much different as im using a 2.5 stat In my GT-stat housing.

That's what my one does - after 5-10 mins it hits 90 and stays there.

You'll also find the heaters are better in the winter too!

That is one tidy piece of kit lad!
Well done.
It'll make changing the stat a doddle as well.

One thing I've just noticed, If you don't secure the remote stat well there is a chance that it will start to vibrate against the metal pipe it's resting on in the 3rd pic(the name of which I cant think of :zx11:) and cause a lot of wear (especially if it's a Stainless steel unit)
Bit of padding required maybe??

Thanks.its not its final resting place yet.
I will move it at the week end to see if it warms up better.
Its turned from solid ally bar.
I will keep updating as i go.
I will be selling them if i get any interest in it.

Hi all.
Ive moved the housing to several places from top to bottom.
Top hose works best.Ive moved it further down the top hose close to the block.
Ive changed the profile slightly which has made it slightly smaller.
Im also having a small 2mm internal weep hole that will help draw the warmer water towards the stat bulb an hopefully make the stat open abit sooner.
The new internal design should be with me to try early nexy week.
I hope people arnt getting bored with this topic.
I will update then.

UPDATE

The New design with the internal weep hole works well.Ive installed the GT-Stat into the top hose down towards the block.

If anyone is interested, can i get a show of numbers. As these are hand made i will have to get stock made up.
1=£175. If quantites are high i can knock the machine company down in price.
Thanks
Graham

Wow mate, £175 is a bit steep!

My one (in the 'How to section) cost me £80-ish from Force Racing a year or so ago, and that had the 10mm outlet for the coolant expansion pipe.
There were a couple of American sites selling similar for about £100 delivered IIRC.

The other guy in my thread, Scrag, used a Volvo stat pushed into the hose down by the block and spent about £5! (I have an AFB engine and couldn't fit it in, so suspect some hose diameter differences to Scrags engine)

However once you have fitted it, you will have no problem changing stats when they fail!

The 40mm Suzuki stat I used had a hole built into the flange with a 'jiggle' pin.
This helped air removal on filling coolant and allowed a good flow through the stat - like your drilled hole.

Cheers paul.
I know its abit steep.im trying to knock him down.he claims material is £35 + £15 for welding+his time to turn it on his lathe 5hrs×£20hr.So for all my head scratching im not wanting to rip people off.
Its fixed my problem.with the internal weep hole it warms up better. The advantage with my housing is it takes a 2.5 Audi stat.
The machine guy has said if you can get an idea of order numbers i could cut production costs for me.I would pass this on.
Im Not Trying to get rich quick.these are the costs to me.I want to offer a good cheaper fix to a big problem on most V6/V8 Audi engines.

Ok.Ive had a good chat to the machining bloke.
He says if i can give him an order for 15 Gt-Stat housings he is able to reduce his production costs due to buying the materials in bulk Qty.
So it brings it down to £145 each.
This design was designed by me to take a Audi stat (2.5tdi) +Audi seal(whats a Seal for...Turning fish into s##t)
It has a internal weep hole to allow water movement towards the stat bulb to aid warm up.
Its currently fitted in my A4 an works very well.
So the question is..is anyone interested in one.
Cheers
Graham.
