I am thinking of buying a Golf MK3 1.8 Se 1996 for my wife and hoped somebody could tell me what sort of fuel economy she could expect using it as a run around. Thanks

I have a P-reg 1.8 se registered Nov 1996, 75k miles (relatively low mileage) and use it mainly for infrequent but long motorway journeys. When I've checked it seems to do about 29mpg on a round trip of 320 (95% motorway) miles, but that is driving rather quickly. I've not measured urban driving specifically unfortunately so cannot answer your question directly.
