My car was christened with it's first stone chip. I've got the Audi touch up kit and just going to try the cocktail still method of applying the paint into the chip. I just need to know if I make a lash up and want to remove the wet paint what is best, thinners or white spirit ? Can using thinners to remove wet paint, damage the existing bodywork paint if not wiped off quickly ? Cheers.http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/images/icons/icon7.png

Actually I was reading up on this last night on various threads on the net.

The majority dont like the Audi stuff, they prefer Chipex (conveniently a forum sponsor) for the best result.

I will be contacting them this afternoon and ordering a pack for my A3.

Should be able to get some forum discount too (hoping).

Only one stone chip? Lucky you.
The front of my 6 month old avant looks like a 100000 mile motor.
maybe a combination of the hard winter and soft paint but I reckon that it's going to need a respray before going back to the lease company.

this is the message I got back this afternoon

Hi Chris, we no longer are running discount codes as we now are running a sale instead of this so the discount is already there.

Best regards,

Johnny

The prices on their site are already discounted so will be ordering a two sets this evening.

Chris,

I'd be interested in photos before and after, and also how difficult & successful you are with this please - I've got a few chips on mine that would cost a chunk to get done by my local body shop, but they aren't really big enough to justify it (if you know what I mean).

I'd also be interested to know how well the stuff stores - I'd probably go for their big kit if I could hold onto it a while, as no doubt I'll pick up more chips at some point.

Hi Russ,

Yes will do mate, just ordered it online now.

Going by other posts online it seems a simple enough process with excellent results.

I get where you're coming from and I'm in the same boat.

I got the 'Lite' kit just to try and depending on results, buy the medium for the A6 in the future.

Chipex 3 Step Repair Instructions - Simple Instructions Guide (http://www.chipex.co.uk/how-it-works-i-4.html)

Will keep both of you updated.

Thanks for the heads up, just placed an order myself. I'd love to know what the car I just purchased had been cleaned with.

After some rain and a quick clean, lots of marks now visible, the paint is in a bit of a state, a few chips (which are expected) but lots of swirls etc.

Anyone know of some detailers in the Suffolk area? Or I might give it a go myself.

Has anyone managed to give the Chipex kit a go yet? I'm interested to know how good the results are.

Thanks

I've been following this and managed to have a go during the week.

There seems to be a knack to it - it's all about judging how much to wipe off the excess paint. For me, the first few wipes wouldn't do anything, then suddenly the solvent would start to work. Then, go very carefully as one wipe too many could remove the whole lot, including the paint which you want to remain in the chip. 2039520396

Here's a before and after. My results weren't perfect, but they are certainly better than I have managed with touch up kits before.

How did you get on, Chris? And could you remind me of the address to send the pics - I lost the slip with the details.

I actually got on pretty well - it took out some minor chips and after reapplying Collinite they're virtually non-existent now.

I did have a major chip on my rear bumper which required a buildup of paint but after 4 coats I gave up, but it did improve it from what it was.

That was on a Ice Silver car and I will be getting the BOGOF for the A6.

Email address can be found in this post - Audi's touch up paint - Page 2 (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?144557-Audi-s-touch-up-paint&p=800856#post800856)

I'm on my iPad so I will post pics later today.

Finally (and remembered!) to post these -

Would I buy it again, na.

It sorted the little ones in the bonnet but it wouldn't do anything for the larger one in the bumper after numerous times building the paint up.

Pic 1 and 2 are the bonnet before and after and 3 and 4 is the bumper before and after.

Ah, so a SMART repair would appear to be the better option then - - best get saving my pennies.

Cheers Chris :)

Indeed - If you want the free to try one I can send you it as I don't think it's worthwhile stripping the wax off my A6 for it.

Send me your colour code and I'll send the pics off to Chipex.

You'll find it on the front page of your service book or the data sticker in your spare wheel well ;)
