Can anyone tell me whether it's ok to use tap water to top up the wife's car? Her Peugeot sounds like it has a leak as it overheated this morning & she got a 'STOP!' message, so I'm going to top it up just to get it to the garage, but is tap water ok, or should it be distilled? I suspect the garage will do a flush anyway, but want to put the right stuff in anyway.

Cheers.

Brilliant, cheers Chris.

I've been adding tap water to my old cars (pre A6) for years and never done a bit of harm.

I've never used anything but tap water (and coolant), but I do like to live on the edge!

On the edge?!?! That's more like russian roulette in the hard water areas down south. Next time, I'd recommend 50% water, 50% coolant & 50% viakal.

Limescale? Pfft...I eat chalk for breakfast

(or something like that)

Haha, you're a renegade moderator - or one with oregnancy cravings

Now I'm not a stirrer at all and I don't want to get anyone into trouble (cough), but I hear the tap water & coolant is about the only water your car's seen in about 3 years, so your car's probably not all that choosy.

Low blow man, low blow!

Mrs mycarsavw washed my car a few weekends ago after it started leaving thick lumps of liquefied road debris on the drive.

I had no idea it was silver, I always assumed it was black!

My God, you're a genius. How did you do that? I recently let the wife take mine to work, but instead of being embarrassed enough to drive it to a car wash, she just stepped the nagging up a gear. I'm tres impressed.
