Hi, does anyone know of a method of retrofitting either a usb interface or additional car reader interface to concert III radio which has no MMI, AMI etc? Don’t want to use the AUX in port as i would like to be able to control the tracks etc from MF steering wheel as i can with the integrated SD card.

Needs to be Cheap too, otherwise i will just live with the 4GB SD limit : -)

Thanks

iPod retrofit are two words that don't work well with "cheap".

im not 100% sure, but i think you cant fit ami to a generation 1 headunit but check here ipod confusion audi models (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?46381-ipod-confusion-audi-models&highlight=ipod+confusion) as jon has posted an excellent list of compatible options.

another option is a xcarlink or dension but check on their own webiste for compatibility.

ye didnt actually mean ipod, meant more like a usb external storage. However, since posting this ive been in touch with Audi, and they told me they can supply an 8GB SD card (non HC) part no 8R0063827F which made me think!! i had always thought, 4GB was the largest capacity one could buy in non HC. turns out its not! anyway, ive tracked one down on ebay for a few quid instead that im gonna try High Speed 8GB 8G SD Secure Digital Flash Memory Card For Camera GPS + Case New | eBay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400397043242&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:GB:3160)

Ill report back if it works!

Did Audi say how much their 8GB card was?

that part number comes back as sdhc

im pretty sure the maximum for non-sdhc is 4gb so you may find that ebay one will be sdhc.

im not convinced this is actually going to be non HC, however that said, he did use my vin number in ETKA so who knows!! this is the message my local dealer emailed me with

19874is an 8 GB SD Memory card listed which is £18.00 inc vat. However Audi UK is showing nil stock at present but with stock in transit. Not entirely sure that this is what you want, but hope it helps.

over 4GB is SDHC. I'm sure if you have a google this will be comfirmed.

I had a google on the 8Gb SD cards and there isn't a lot good being said about them - and it appears that they are HC in many cases; that, and they are so cheap and nasty that they fall apart if you breathe on them the wrong way.

Was the SD slot capability upgraded to cope with SDHC cards at any point?

I think when the glossy front headunits came out the capacity was upgraded.

Something like this one on a 2012 A5 loan car.

Well, just for the hell of it, I pinched the 8Gb SDHC card out of Mrs C's camera, formatted it, and whacked a few albums onto it; I stuck it into the car earlier, and it was playing me music before the engine even started! I am going to get her a 16Gb for her camera, and will try that one too before she uses it :) - leastways I can pinch the 8Gb for the car, happy days :)

The card concerned is a Ricoh (TDK branded) 8Gb that we bought from Tesco a while back.

excellent news mate. i pressume you have no ami mmi etc, and is just a first gen concert III ? whats the hardware and softare rev number ?

fat controller
28-03-2013, 08:17 PM
Definitely no AMI - and don't think I have MMI as there are no buttons around the gearstick (apart from the stop/start and parking sensors etc); how do I find the hardware/software version numbers, and I will check them and get back to you?

Ah, now I have checked it again, I have a symphony and not a concert - that might be the difference?

hmmmm. maybe... you got me excited earlier so i through caution to the wind and nipped into tesco on way home, went for an 8GB Sandisk ultra this one actually Sandisk Ultra 30MB/s SDHC Card 8GB - Retail Pack: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sandisk-Ultra-30MB-SDHC-Card/dp/B000QUUFRM)

but guess what.... it didnt work!! lol aw well, was only a fiver and i'll use it in my laptop!! still insanely jealous that yours works though! lol

to check your versions, you push the set-up button, then settings, then version information. mine is H02 and 210

The only difference between Symphony and Concert is that the Symphony has a 6 CD changer built in.

GriogiarD, what year is your car?

There was probably some sort of upgrade made to the headunit.

Mine doesn't have a glossy front, so not sure if that is an indication or not? Here is the image of mine that was on the dealer's site when I was buying the car:

Sorry I got you all excited only to let you down mate.

I might get adventurous tomorrow and go get a 32Gb and try that - worst case, Mrs C can have it for her camera. Don't know if it helps or is relevant, but my car was registered on 27th July 2009.

I think I can see a wee four in a circle in one corner, but it is too small to be sure - possibly class 4 if that exists? I'll have a google and see if I can turn up something similar.

EDIT - it is a class 4 - 8GB and listed on this site (http://www.tdkperformance.com/en-eu/Storage-Media/Flash-Media/SD_SDHC_Cards/)

Version Information as follows:

HW: H03
SW: 0310

I have the radio and display numbers too if you need them, but I reckon they are simply serial numbers.

EDIT - it seems that the software version information is the critical thing thread here (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?75229-SDHC-Cards-working!)

It would also appear that it can be upgraded by a dealer, but I'd imagine persuading them to even look for the upgrade info might be a bit of a challenge.

Might be worth speaking to your nearest dealer to see if they can do the upgrade for you? Alternatively, it might be worth googling about, as no doubt one of the wizards with VCDS will know how to do it - could be worth a few beer tokens?

I've contacted Audi this morning about software update and they told me it might be at a cost of £149. Told them no way am paying for an update as here ( see link below ) it clearly mentions that "Free software updates for Audi music interface"

The Audi music interface keeps up to date (http://www.audiusanews.com/pressrelease/998/44/audi-music-interface-keeps-up-date)

When i've asked is there's any difference with Audi US and Audi UK, the person told me that there shouldn't but will get in touch with supervisor and get back to me.

Still waiting but I also have a booking with them end of this month. I wonder what will be the outcome.

Interesting. Does anyone know the latest software version? I find mine quite slow and clunky as I have so many songs. I wonder if an upgrade would improve this

Perth Audi refused to do the upgrade for me, even though I provided all the workshop/campaign numbers and told them the only reason I was still having my car serviced by the franchise was because they are the only ones that can do this sort of thing. Told me the update didn't apply to my car ("computer says no") even though others with the same radio and software version have had the update.

They told me the same thing on the phone but when I referred to the Audi US website, she told me I need to speak to the person who gonna check the car. So there does seem to be some difference in services provided by audi in different countries. I just wonder why? anyway as said, I have book a service for this end of month and i'lll let you know about the outcome of the software update.

But in the case that they don't, can anyone confirm if the software on audi.de is the latest correct one for audi concert III systems. its called ami_userupdate

Don't get AMI updates confused with firmware updates for the headunit!

Headunit FW to allow SDHC seems to be the latest - Upgrade to SDHC radio update SVM B856A001 (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?144949-Upgrade-to-SDHC-radio-update-SVM-B856A001&highlight=Concert+SDHC)
