A couple of years ago, the car wouldn't start, so I took it to a garage where (£138 later) my starter motor was replaced. Next day, still didn't start, so I took it back, and when I asked whether it was in fact the fault of the starter motor in the first place, I was told "Yeah, we actually know that starter was faulty now". A few months later, it happened again.

Now it's happened on and off since then, but the last few weeks it's now happening more than it isn't. I can sometimes get by, by turning the key all the way, then gentley letting it back and it catches, but not all the time. This would lead me to the ignition switch. How would I check this, and what should I do? The Haynes manual suggests that the ignition should be replaced by a dealer?

I've done some stuff, like replacing the radiator, door locks and other stuff, so I have a basic grasp of mechanical stuff.

Any help would be much appreciated!
