View Full Version : Retrofitting electric windows

I love my mk 3 1.4 Golf CL, but the lack of electric windows is winding me up no end (haha). I got so used to them on my old astra (even if only the passenger side worked) that this whole winding-the-window-up-and-down thing is a bit too last millenium for me.

So, is there any way that leccy windows can be installed by me? Looking through a few threads I can see that almost anything to do with windows is a royal pain in the ****, but I am forewarned and I have a Haynes manual. What can possibly go wrong...?

I'm assuming that the bits can probably come from a breakers yard and that on my car it is a case of adding the bits the factory left off - elements of the wiring loom, switches, changing of door interiors etc - so that I needn't worry too much about the system drawing excessive power.

Any thoughts, advice, hints and tips welcome.

Still wondering about this.

The easiest way has got to be buying doors complete in the right colour. Rebuilding door interiors is a real pain. I'd rather stick with the windy things - much less to go wrong anyway.
