Im looking at a 1.6 TDI SE 3 dr some brokers are charking about £18100 thats with metallic paint and no extras not sure if thats a good price or not

I got 6.5% at a dealer - 1.4TSI SE.

As a side point I'd suggest going for the 5dr even if you don't need the extra practicality. The 3dr Golf has traditionally been unpopular and won't have as good resale value.

My dealer quoted "absolutely no discount!!!!"

I therefore went to "drivethedeal", specified my car and obtained a detailed quote from them.

Then went back to the salesman at my dealer and told him the "drivethedeal" price. His sales-manager then checked the price with "drivethedeal" and matched it! Managed to save over £3200 on list price (about 11%)!! The salesman was staggered his manager agreed - but as I was a repeat customer and another sale would look good for his quarterly sales he said yes - reluctantly! The only proviso was that I ordered the car that day. Which I did.

I have been told subsequently by the dealer NOT to advertise the fact that they would match internet broker prices - but unless you ask.........
