Knocking noise from Multitronic?

Hi there

I recently purchased a 2.0 Tdi A4 S-line with multitronic gearbox and have noticed a strange noise from the gearbox (i think).

The noise is a knocking/rattle which seems to sound when you keep the car at a constant speed, say 30 or 40mph. I do have a warranty on the car however I just wondered if anybody had experienced the same? and if so what the problem was. I am taking it to audi next week to be looked at.

The car drives fine and the gearbox is as smooth and well behaved as i imagine it should be.....just this strange noise.

Your help would be appreciated.

Hopefully the Audi dealer will give you the answer - my local one was fantastic with me last week when I went in for diagnosis of my clutch/dmf problems

Is it like a rattle vibration as the engine comes on load but stops as the revs pick up?

Yes this is how it is. When it changes gear the noise goes if the revs have picked up. However the noise can be heard in all gears at certain revs

When you say in every gear, is this when it is in sport mode as in 'D' there is no change of gear.

You can hear the revs drop/raise as the gear changes or pulleys alter and then the noise goes. Not tried it in sport mode but it does it in manual mode also.

Will look at them 2 though thanks mate.
