Recently on insertion of the ignition key I hear 4 beeps coming from what sounds like the rear nearside of the car; this doesn't happen all of the time but I'm totally clueless as to what it is and not sure if I should be worried about it.
I've looked in the owner's manual and there's no mention of this and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and more importantly can tell me what it is?

It's a 2001 225Quattro if that makes any difference?

The back up batteries are going in your alarm box, it's in the rear NS wing cavity, you can get at it after removing the rear light cluster.

The batteries are not designed to be replaced (good old Audi) and a new alarm is about £70 I think plus fitting if you get a dealer to do it.

If you are good at fixing things you can cut the alarm open and buy the batteries from Maplin for about £10
