I was interested to note in this months "Which?" magazine road test on the new Golf that they state "boot space has dropped by 45 litres compared to the previous Golf, at 305 litres...."

Volkswagen however states," Boot space also extends by 30 litres over the outgoing Golf, to 380 litres."

Not having seen the new Golf yet, has anyone any thoughts on whether the boot is bigger/smaller??

Good to see that the Golf does win the test though!

Not sure how each one takes their measurements but the brochure for the Golf VII gives it as "380 litres, using the VDA measuring method". In my case in order to get my mobility scooter in the boot the important measurement in the front to back measurement. With my existing A3 Sportback this measurement is 810mm. With the new A3 this drops to 778mm and with the Golf VII to 760mm. This means I think I will be looking at the Golf VII Estate when it is released. The current Golf VI Estate measurement is 1070mm

Which measures boot space differently to the manufacturer, I've noticed this before.

The VDA method involves putting 20x10x5cm blocks in the car to fill the space (1 litre each) and however many can be inserted is the boot capacity.

EDIT: Also interesting that they are seemingly using their method of comparing boot space (Mk7) to the VDA method (Mk6). Very poor if that's the case.

Maybe it's because the Mk7 has an adjustable floor? Perhaps it was measured with the floor in the upper position.
