My audi a4 1.9tdi(1999) has developed a strange issue. The car even when it is cold reports the engine temp of 121 degrees. The engine does not run hot and the air con functions correctly. I have had the coolant sensor replaced and the thermostat recently along with timing belt and waterpump although this issue did not start till 3 months after.

Using the air diagnostic utility, the coolant temp(diag 51) rises(from a cold start) from 14 to 90 degrees and during this time the air con fan speed increases to heat the inside up. However the engine temp(diag 49) has a starting temp of 121 which obviously then has a knock on effect so that the red temp warning light on the dash appears.

The fans that reside around the radiator are functional and the coolant reservoir is at a normal level.

Any advise on possible issues would be grateful.

I will try that tomorrow as the temperature reading was all over the place today starting at 120 and finally working down to steady 90-100. either that or some sort of blockage
