Hello all,
noticed that the rear hubs on my 5 month old B8 have started to discolour. and thats before the worst of the road salt and weather has finished so god know what state they will be in by Spring.
Read a few threads online about it and I was wondering if anyone on here had had same and what they had done about it, what products and methods they used?

BTW, I use acid free wheel cleaner, so that's not the culprit.

Cheers.

Paint-on Hammerite has done the trick for me many times in the past.

Paint-on Hammerite has done the trick for me many times in the past.

Normal old "Any old iron" Hammerite or special high temperature stuff?
How many coats and how long between them?

Sorry for the ???s but I want to hit this as soon as the weather clears.

Interesting. Any pictures of the finished results?

I just used hammerite standard paint from Halfords.

Gave it 3 costs with an hour in between.

You can go smooth or hammered, I prefer smooth in black.

I put standard smooth black hammerite on my old B6 S4 brakes and despite numerous trackdays etc it was always fine. On a hub it won't be an issue. I've been intending to do mine in silver smoothrite for ages. A job the spring I think :)

I'm thinking that black might go well with the anthracite wheels.

Hi there, I'm sure there are many different variations possible to get the look you want, here's mine.......

Its a simple case of wheels off and thoroughly cleaned inside n out whilst they're off the car.
Hubs n calipers given a good doing over with a wire brush to remove any loose rust / pait / dirt etc
They're then given a quick brush over with a clean paintbrush to catch any dust etc
Use the product of your choice.....for me, Hammerite smooth in silver for that clean stock look
Let them dry and get wheel back on the car, all in probably around 1 hour each wheel or perhaps less..

Here's one of my threads below from last year.....

A6 - painting hubs n calipers (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?65910-A6-painting-hubs-n-calipers)

I'm sure there are more around with different processes and or products to help give you an idea of what
you want to achieve if you look

Personally its something I do every year in the Springtime around March / April

Hope to hear how you get on and which way you decide to go.
Don't forget to post the pics.......:beerchug:

That's exactly the way I'll do it. I reckon I'll also do the calipers at the same time and it doesn't take much more time.

Silver hubs but need to decide on the calipers. I don't do "pretending to be carbon/Porsche/Brembo" so it'll be silver or black.

Thanks Jim.
thats exactly what I was looking for. Results look cracking.
Just need to decide what colour to go for.
mates think I'm mad as its a company car but IMO, it's sitting on my drive and its condition is a reflection of my attitude.

I agree in looking after company cars.

The wife has a 61 plate BMW E90 and I polish it just as often as I do my own cars.
