Hi long time Golf fan having owned mk2, 4 and 5's and been in or driven mk1, 3, 6, and today the mk7. Considering a mk7 and Test drove a 1.6tdi today was very nice the mk7 is both quiet and comfortable, the car had covered 7 miles and considering, it would still be tight it really pulled willingly impressed, cd was in the glovebox it had the basic touchscreen radio. Thought the build quality excellent and the interior layout very classy, the silver trim nothing like the photos or Configurator shows which makes it look well tacky fortunately it's not.

Currently at the numbers stage, done online drivethedeal price, signed up to car buzz today and spoken to local dealer, as well as a quick mail to a dealer I've used before. Surprised there is potential discount on a new model but will see what comes back, think that covers a range of options unless any other suggestions.

Anyway possible spec below don't think it needs much more.... Does it? :)

I'd advise against picking that many options, as you won't get that money back at resale. With the list you've supplied it comes out as £22,157.32 on DTD, which is a lot for a 1.6 TDI even though there is a £2671.18 discount on that.

You'd be better of getting a 2.0 TDI GT without options instead which comes out at £20,901.50 with a £2556.01 discount from DTD.

The optionless GT TDI will always be worth more than the specced up 1.6 TDI...

Thanks appreciate that.

I need the car to be in the lower insurance group ideally hence the 1.6, I do at least 20k per year so some of those options are to make that more pleasant, that said I didn't realise how much more the GT comes with as standard, I'll get a comparative on CarBuzz too for 2.0TDI and look at the insurance difference.

Have you driven the 2.0 TDI as well, if so how did it compare?

I read the carbuzz review which said it was a bit slow and feels 'breathless at times' - Mk7 VW Golf 1.6 TDI Review - Economical, but Too Slow? | carbuzz.co.uk (http://www.carbuzz.co.uk/blog/VW-Golf-16-TDI-BMT-Review-349)

I currently have a 1.6 bluemotion mk6 and the difference that putting mileage on made to the performance of the car was amazing. Over the first 6-8months (10,000miles) the performance and drive ability of the car improved hugely.
I think it's very hard to judge the proper drive ability of any car that has <2,000 miles on it

No not driven the 2.0 had a few 2.0 140's over the years, I didn't think the 1.6 too slow.

What sort of mpg did you get from the 1.6 TDI? I know it won't be amazing due to it being a brand-new engine with only a few miles on it!

I didn't drive it long enough to get a good reading and don't recall.
