View Full Version : Ugh... And now we have a parking dint!

Me again...

Well the failing xenon lamp from last nights 'problem' post has seemingly held out for my wife's journey home last night but upon the usual morning inspection I have discovered that she's picked up a f'king parking dint :zx11:

So we now have a small dent about the size of a 50p and chipped paint on the upper edge of the rear passenger side door - about 2 inches below the window line!

I expect a body shop would want around £150-£200 to sort it out and given that we have just laid out a substantial amount for the wagon I just don't have the funds which leaves me considering a chips away or similar service...

I know you need to be careful who you select so wondered if anyone on here has any recommendations for a company in the surrey (Guildford) area?

and lastly... to the f'king oxygen thief that has no consideration for other people's property - I hope you have a miserable life and all my recent bad luck comes back on you 10 fold! If I ever see anyone do this and not leave details for the owner I will make it my personal mission to make sure justice is served!

not sure how calm I will remain if anything else goes wrong or happens to our new car... I foresee a scene from the film Falling Down unfolding in a leafy suburb of surrey! :aargh4:

I know it's not chips away, and but I have had work done on my old S4 at Bisley coachwork. Nice job and not too pricey (respray rear bumper and fix 3 dings in 3 doors + 4 wheel refurbished for about £600)
Yard was full of beemers, mercs and porches whisky is always a good sign)

Thanks mate... To be honest if I went to a body shop I would also want the rear bumper doing (scratches on the top of the bumper where previous owner has been dragging stuff in and out) and also a few other imperfections. £600 for all that and 4 wheel refurb is bloody good but sadly about £500 more than I really want to spend and I can live with the other bits for now accept for this annoying dint...

Will deffo keep them in mind for the future though as finding a good body shop these days can be pretty tricky!

Porch whisky sounds nice too by the way ;) lol

Chipsaway is a franchised organisation, so each area has their own "company".

I used our local one last year for some damage to my wife;s Focus. TBH, though it would be too big a job for them and it would need a bodyshop but no. They came and did it, and also another small dink I hadn;t noticed, all for a very low price. Thoroughly recommend them.

Go here, and find your local man and get them to come and look at it and quote, you may be surprised. The Focus had a deep long gouge out of the front bumper, a huge nasty piece missing out of the alloy and a dent and scrape in the wing. All fixed for £150. plus, another dent for nothing.

I have seen them do minor dinks for about £60-80.

Cannot recommend them highly enough. Repair was done about 12 months ago, cannot see at all where it was, and looks like new even now.

Great info! Thanks mate - personal recommendation counts for a lot these days!

I had to use Chipsaway a few years back to repair some damage on the back bumper of my Jag, and they did a fine job:

Before:

After:

They did quite a bit of other work on the boot lid also, and after the repair you really wouldn't have ever known that the damage had been there.

Failing that, I can also recommend Grimshaw & Wake in Hampton, which isn't all that far from you - my company puts a lot of business through them, simply because they do a really good job and don't muck either us or our customers about.

Thanks FC! I contacted chips away and emailed them the pics below this morning. Unfortunately due to the location of the damage and colour of the car their repairer didn't feel he could do anything for us and recommended a good body shop.

I wasn't giving up there though (and really can't afford a full on body shop repair) so searched again and came up either these guys Car Scratches Surrey | Mobile Bumper Repairs Scuffs Car Dent Car Body Repair Paint touch up automotive Bodywork (http://www.smartagain.co.uk). I spoke to a nice chap called Phil (a good trust worthy name lol) and he seems to think that he can either do a mobile repair or worst case can give me a very competitive price for their body shop to do the work. I've sent him the pics and we've discussed the job with the promise that he will come back to me tomorrow with a price. I've also asked he looks at reducing the deep scratches on the rear bumper (also pictured). I'm not expecting perfect results and if its 95% right then that will be good enough for me - for the time being at least!

Will keep you all posted!

I'd be interested in your quote Phil, as I have a couple of dinks that I'd like to get sorted :)

I had a small scratch on our old car on the bumper. I had chips away look at it and he said he would do it but would recommend a body shop for a proper job. I then used another local chip away type guy. Very friendly, loads of good pictures and comments off other people on his Facebook page. The job was cr@p! I wish I had been to a body shop!

Maybe not what you needed to hear, but I wish I had listen to the chips away guy.

Well Phil came back to me by email this evening and his price is £185 to sort the door and compound polish the bumper. The rear door would be painted and so would the front in order to blend the new paint and all this can be done in our car park.

Its slightly higher than I would have liked so I'm going to ask if he can do anything for cash and also go to one of the recommended body shops to get a quote for comparison. Hopefully a deal can be done!

At that kind of money I am not sure I would want an outside "car park" job - worth pricing a couple of "good" local body shops in your area. It should be possible to repair or at least vastly improve the rear bumper by wet sanding and machine polishing (not by a novice though). I was hit by a door on the rear wheel arch (where the metal is curved and double skinned). Had the dent taken out by a pro PDR expert and luckily the mark in the paint wet sanded out - amazed at the thickness of Audi paint (can't see it at all)!

Got to agree, at that sort of money you might be as well with a body shop - - are you ever in the Hampton area? If you were passing and popped into G&W I'm sure they'd give you a favourable quote.

I know what you're saying guys... Not sure what to do but obviously need to speak to some body shops. Thanks for your thoughts!
