View Full Version : Question whens cambelt due on a4 b8 s line 2008

hi i am just about to pick up my first audi a4 sline 2.0 tdi 143 2008 in a few days and am confused about the cambelt change i asked the salesman and we looked in the service book and it said 120000 miles for cambelt is this correct because i have seen posts on here saying 60k was gonna ring audi but thought i would put a post here first .:biglaugh:

I know it's recommended at 120k but I wouldn't be going too far off 60k or 4 years personally.

Had mine was changed back in August at 82k.

I remember reading in a service manual - not sure if it was one of the VAG group cars or not - that the cam belt was '...fitted for the lifetime of the engine'. EXACTLY, when the belt lets go; that's the end of the engine. :rolleyes:

Between 60-80k always feels about right for me.

Always worth doing the water pump at the same time to save doing the same job twice!

I know VAG petrol engines need doing at 60K and don't see why the belt on a diesel should last any longer... proactive maintenance will always save you money over reactive!

I asked the garage about my 2009 S-Line TDi and was told that it is 72000, i also think i have seen this milage in the service book.

I think since VW/Audi had earlier issues with premature tensioner failure leading to a lot of embarrassing engine failures, they have heavily re-engineered the system on the B8. I looked at mine a few months ago and they had beefed it up beyond all recognition compared to my B7 A4 with teh same engine block. I certainly think the 60K would be a Tad excessive personally.
