A4 B6 2001 2.0lt petrol

Car has been driving fine with no problems. The o2 sensor has needed changing for a while now so I finely got round to swapping it over, but in the process I must have bumped something! After changing the o2 sensor and starting the car it was immediately apparent the something wasnt quite right stuck it on VAG om and it came up with: 17748 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28): Incor. Correlation P1340 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded fault code? Now I know that the car was running fine before the sensor swap and I only changed it as the engine management light was on and annoying the hell out of me, but what could have happened to cause this fault?

have you tried resetting the code?

anyway the diagnosis is here 17748/P1340/004928 - Ross-Tech Wiki (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/17748/P1340/004928)

Yes but it immediately comes back. Car idles higher than normal for a few seconds then runs very rough as if its about to stall

17748/P1340/004928 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28): Incor. Correlation Possible Causes

Timing Belt/Chain incorrectly installed

Timing Chain probably lengthened

Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) faulty
Engine Speed Sensor (G28) faulty

Timing marks all line up so that just leaves the sensors. Am I right in saying the Cam position sensor is behind the front sprocket and Timing belt needs to come off? so that being the case where is the Engine Speed Sensor as this is the cheapest to start with?

Well after much googling and flaffing about it turns out to be the MAF. This appears to be because of me changing the 02 sensor giving the ECU a different reading from the reading it had been getting.
I used to enjoy working in cars the old faction way when it was points and plugs, now its all electrics and its blowing me away. Does that make me a dinosaur

Ok small update and question to this.
Car was running fine while MAF was unplugged but obviously Engine management and traction control lights showing. Not sure why the traction control light is on but *** it goes off when MAF is plugged back in.

So the MAF has been cleaned and allowed to dry over night and reinstalled today. Plugged back in, now running slightly better but still a bit rough at start when idling, but this tends to sort its self out after a few moments. Unfortunately it is showing the 17748/P1340/004928 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28): Incor. Correlation fault again :zx11:
Into the bargain my bonnet catch has stopped catching and that now needs stripping:aargh4:

What I would like to know is if the timing was out how can it run fine when the MAF is unplugged and although rough for a few seconds when plugged back in it does balance itself back out but still throwing this cell? I think I am answering my own question by saying that the cam or speed sensor is at fault! Can any one tell me where the speed sensor is on this model? B6 2.0 SE

thanks Tony
