Hi guys, had a quick search and can't find an answer. We looked at a nice B8 yesterday to replace our B7 but one thing I noticed was the heater controls displayed a '3' on the drivers side heater controls on start up.

Is this a fault code? And if so, any ideas what it could mean?

going back to do a deal at lunch time so if anyone can help this morning I'd be very grateful...

TIA

Not the overwhelming response I'd hoped for to be honest lol

Anyway did the deal and pick this up Monday

Phil,
I'm sorry not to be able to offer any inteligence on the question of "3".
Congratulations on your purchase. Looks very nice.
Tell us the details please. Spec and age and mileage.
I also look forward to hearing your comparison review vs the trade in, or are you keeping that?
I assume that an early scan with vcds will be the order of the day, to establish the cause of the "3". I hope that you will report the result.

The car looks good and get some more pics up when you get it :)

Saturday isn't our busiest day on here so hence the lack of replies but I would suggest a quick fault code scan done with vcds .. Where abouts are you?

It may just need a regas etc ...

I kinda expected it to be a bit quiet today tbh so wasn't worried. The new car is a 2.0tdi 170ps with 92k on the clock. It comes with leather/alcantara AMI, dimming/folding mirrors and rear integrated sun blinds. Would have liked a few other options but at this end of the market I feel pretty lucky to have what I've been given.

Our B7 has been traded in and I'm very happy with the deal! The departing car was a 56 plate, garnet red avant, 2.0tdi 170ps with leather/Alcantara, Bose, black roof rails and I added some 19" bbs lm reps. Tbh we had enough issues with it so more than happy to see the back of it!

Will have plenty of pics to whore with you guys once we get it home on Monday!

I'm in Guildford, Surrey so if anyone can help with VAGCOM I'd be very grateful indeed. Fault codes would be ideal but would also like to enable the needle sweep and anything else that can be recommended.

Thanks for the replies!

Thanks Chris! Will try Stuart as we're just down the road in Burpham so that could be perfect if he's free!

Heres the 2 (poor) iPhone snaps I grabbed today - dirty from the test drive the night before but you get the idea!

Has it got heated seats?

I am not sure if these can be "left on", but I do recall from driving an A6 that the heat level is displayed on the heater controls. It could be that?

Yes they are displayed on the aircon but definitely not at startup.

Some aircon units do actually display fault codes (my a3 does if you press a combination of buttons) hence why the OP needs a fault code scan ;)

No heated seats but that was my first thought too. I didn't notice it showing a '3' again yesterday when we went back so it's certainly a bit of a mystery. I thought the heating could show fault codes but never heard about it for the B8...

Need to clean our B7 this afternoon once the boys had his sleep and get it ready for the trade in tomorrow. Here's a pic of our old one for reference.

Congrats on the purchase! I bought mine from Imperial too - nice people to deal with (so far).

Well it's home and we're very happy with the new car. Too dark for pics by the time we got back but I'll grab some tomorrow after a wash. Imperial were very good to be honest and I would recommend them to anyone else.

Well after a quick play this morning, I have discovered that we have voice control and the mystery '3' was the fan speed! Our key slot seems a bit sticky to get the key out of and doesn't seem overly positive when inserting and starting the engine - it does work though and will be covered by the warranty if/when it fails or gets worse.

I'm also wondering if we have the optional s line suspension. Seems lower than normal s line to me - what does everyone think?

Not had a chance to give her a wipe down yet as my drying towels have been left at the in-laws so I've just got a couple of early (sunny for a change) morning pics to share...

And lastly, happy new year! Looking forward to everything this year might bring. It can only be better than 2012 (I sincerely hope so).

Last shot of our B7 after a wash and just about to leave for MOT, wheel swap and trade in... (Kept the wheels in hope they will fit the new car)

odd for the fan speed to displayed on startup .. never seen that before!

your wheels wont fit your b8 as the centre bore is larger on the b8 .. iirc its 66mm and the b7 is 57mm, there may be a way round this but i have no idea on that

the car looks lovely, as does your b7, both lovely cars

not sure on the suspension either but the 2011 s-line avant i had on loan is shown below for comparison .. iirc it had the standard s-line suspension

Morning Chis, thanks for that. Ours is deffinately lower than that one (nice dent by the way - hope it was like that already) as for the wheels, they deffinately have a larger center bore as I had to source spigot rings before I could fit them on the B7. Only one way to find out I guess but I want to get winter out the way and have them refurbed first. Not seen many B8s on them so pretty excited about the possibilities!

Looking through the history it had the air-con re gassed in dec '11 and again 5 months later in may '12 so it does hint at previous problems and I can't rule out any potential issues until I've had it scanned I guess.

I checked out the profile of the chap in Woking with VCDS that you linked to and he doesn't seem to be a regular poster on here. Is this correct or am I missing something?

thanks again for your help mate

The dent was there before I had the car, I had it for nearly 2 months! Done 6-7k and they weren't pleased! It was placed for sale a few days later after I handed it back.

Are they real BBS? They would look pretty sweet on a B8, probably one of a kind!

Looking back he was last on on the 17th Dec '12 so I would still try a PM, but as I said, you would definitely get hold of Kite up in Bracknell .. Just use the drive as an excuse to get out in the car!

George (kite) could probably meet you halfway and throw him a £5/10 for the scan and any tricks you get switched on.

happy new year!

Just send me a PM if you want a scan.

Thanks Chris and Kite, sadly I'm unable to drive for the next 6 months (gutted I can't have a play in the new car yet!) so going anywhere to get the car scanned is tricky for me and the wife wouldn't be up for it as we have a 2yr old that would also need to be in tow!

kite, let me know if you're over this way at all as I'd love to get a few of the extras unlocked!

I wish the wheels were real BBS but they're just reps. The real deal would be about £3K and if I ha that kind on money I'd have bought a lower mileage A4 lol. They look pretty convincing though and worked out cheaper than 4 new tyres for the original wheels on the B7 - you've got to love eBay!

I'm also wondering if we have the optional s line suspension. Seems lower than normal s line to me - what does everyone think?

Take a look at the Option Codes sticker in the spare wheel well (or in the front of your service book). Do you have an option "1BV" listed? If so, this denotes the optional 30mm drop S line suspension.

Cheers!

MF.

Good shout! I thought there should be a sticker somewhere but I didn't know where to look. Thanks mate!

Will check it out and post the option codes... discovered we have DAB last night after a quick play!

You'll be finding things for the next few weeks!

Enjoy (looking at!) the car ;) :biglaugh:

Lol thanks Chris, yeah your right, looking is as much as I can do for now. Started the engine a couple of times just to feel the weight of the steering, listen to the engine and and a fiddle with some of the buttons (which technically I shouldn't be doing but have NO intention of driving and it's on private land).

It's not easy being such a car nut and not being able to have a play. It's also not possible to 'encourage' the wife into a bit of spirited driving to see how it performs! Never mind, only 5 months and 3 weeks to go!

Anyway, thanks to MFGF I have located the options sticker in the service manual and have grabbed a pic for reference (what did we do before smart phones???). There seems to be tons of option codes there and it does confirm we have the S Line suspension so I'm well pleased with that!

Is there anything on line I can use to discipher the rest of them?

Put every code that's in block 5 into this

http://igorweb.org/equidec/

It will decode all the options and tell you what's fitted to the car.

Thanks Chris, what a useful tool! Interestingly it lists a lot of what I would consider to be standard S Line spec and doesn't mention the AMI or DAB!

I'm beginning to wonder if we have an S Line 'executive' model which seem to come with the seats, Bluetooth and the entertainment options that we have. I don't see any reference to this in our documentation though so I'm really not sure!?!

Some optional extras aren't listed as PR codes

AMI and DAB not standard on S Line in 2009.

Mine is an S Line Exec, it should have cruise control, leather/alcantera seats and bluetooth if it is.

Nosey! I'm banned... made a stupid stupid decision and now I'm paying for it. I'm not proud of it, have learnt from my mistake and will never do it again!

As for the cars options, I'm fairly sure it is an exec then as we have Bluetooth (with mount for cradle in the armrest), voice control and cruise so that's a nice bonus!

thanks guys!

It does seem you have the Exec model ..

Executive S line model equipment
Audio and communication
Mobile telephone preparation – Low,
in front centre armrest
Audi Symphony radio
Interior equipment
Cruise control
S line embossed Sports seats in leather/Alcantara upholstery

Cheers Greg, only have myself to blame and don't deserve the pity!

Its not too bad to be honest - but getting public transport again after a good number of years driving bmws and audis is a somewhat humbling experience!

Only 5 months and 3 weeks to go now!

Been busy sorting a few bits on the car today. Window rubber was trapped in the plastic trim on one of the rear windows so popped it back into place and have managed to bend the trim back a bit so it looks better but still not perfect. Removed the dealers tax disk holder and replaced with a Richbrook item, cleaned the trim, replaced the wiper blades front and rear and discovered a blown lamp in the tailgate convenience light, removed an odd plastic clip left by a previous owner that was stuck to the windscreen behind the rear view mirror (no idea what that was for!) and had a go (but failed) at getting the rear right hand side cubby hole cover to clip in place properly in the boot... oh and I wiped the wheels clean.

I might have time tomorrow to give it a proper wash and take some pics - if I'm lucky and can convince the wife to look after the little one while daddy plays with the car again lol :)
