Hi all, I was just wondering about people insurance quotes.

Im a 19 year old male in a full time job living in a low risk area with Aviva paying roughly £1900 a year, and have got 2 years no claims. I drive a A4 B8 2008 1.8t 120bhp s-line, Ive got both parents on my policy to bring down the price without them it was over £3000. Also added my sister who is 21 which increased it by 17p :) I thought that was a good investment even though I don't ever let her drive (don't trust her driving)

£1900 might sound expensive, but my old car was a 59 reg Fiesta 1.4 and my quote was around £1600!!

I recently did a thread on my renewal as it was such a good result. I did all 4 price comparison sites & their best quote was way, way over (I'm talking three figures) what I managed to get by using Chris Knott Insurance (£480) who are a site sponsor. To cap it all, Chris knott gave me a lower excess & a much better level of cover. To be fair the other site sponsor Prestige Insurance ran them close, but not quite close enough. I'm 37 but live in a high risk postcode. The forum sponsors give discounts to members on here & actually use common sense rather than just quoting what the computer tells them.

At the end of the renewal process I was able to increase the level of cover, protect my ncb and declare my true mileage for the first time (3x higher than previously estimated ), lower my excess and still nearly halve my premium from last year.

I pay about £760/year fully comp for business/social use (18k/miles) on a 2011 A4 Avant 2 TFSI Quattro Black Edition from Admiral. By far the cheapest, all others on comparison sites wanted £2k+. Although 35 I've only been driving 6 years, 2 years NCB, but previous claim from hit and run so not me to blame.

Comparison sites are rubbish they give ridiculous quotes. Ive seen them at 6k!!! Direct line, Aviva and Lv I find give me the best quotes. There not on comparison sites

Personally I would dread to think what my insurance would be (thank god for company cars) 36 with 9 points think it would be astronomical even the Mrs took me off hers now as at renewal they wanted another 250 (direct line) just to name me. I drive everywhere at 1mph below the limit till I get rid of some points. Never had a claim or a claim against me though.

I know LV are on the comparison sites & I'm sure Aviva are too. Right enough Direct Line aren't though. I usually found LV cheapest too so I've been with them the last two years. However Chris Knott whooped them this year - and put me with Highway, which is a subsidiary of LV.

Dr Northy, I'd be a nervous wreck every time I drove if I had 9 points. Easy to pick them up though.

Ouch!!!!! That must really hurt. Is that down to your choice of car or would that be for just about anything these days?

Ok my B8 is over 4 years old now and is insured for £299 - although I then got £80 back via a certain cashback site, so nett £219. It was about double that if I recall, when brand new with Audi Insurance. The policy and car are in my wifes name as she has max NCB and I only drive it at the week-end.

I know, its the price you pay for being 19. I have friends which drive fords, vauxhalls ect, who pay similar prices to me. My Dad drives a 2012 BMW 530d and pays £350 year!!

I insured my S4 with Zurich, via kwikfit, and by not opting for the courtesy car and legal cover I saved over £100, I then got Audi Ensurance, which covers this and more, for £50.
My total came in at just over £400.

I've got a 2008 A4 S Line 1.8T 160PS.

I'm insured with Bell Direct. I have my partner (primary school teacher) and my Dad (Local Councillor) as named drivers.

I'm 26, my partner's 24 and my Dad is 72. I've been driving for over 9 years, but I've always had a trade policy so I only have 2 years NCB. I've got no claims made and I've got a clean licence (B and C1) and I'm a member of the school of advanced motorists, and I'm also on the Blue Light Driving Register.

I pay £204 per month, so around £2450 per year.

However, I do live in the car crime capital of Europe (so my insurance company tell me). I may be moving to a different area next week, and just from the change of address, my new quote is £950 per year.

EH?!?!?!?! Did you hit an extra key on the keyboard or are you being serious?!:confused::confused:

Ha ha! I wish I'd hit another key. But I decided to bite the bullet and just pay it. And if we want to be pedantic about it, I pay £204.18 per month.

My biggest gripe about car insurance is, as far as I'm aware, it's the only thing that is a legal requirement that isn't regulated by the government. So it's either pay up or don't drive.

CraigG86 - The price you quote given the circumstances is outlandish buddy
Both my sons ( 17 & 18 at the time ) living in Glasgow area, just passed their test driving 10 year old 1.2 Renault Clio were approx £1600 & £1300 respectively, albeit with trackers fitted.......I feel you're being ripped off my friend.

Personally, I would suggest that both you and Satty at leasst ask Tim @ prestige to go through it with you NOW........Depending on what they come back with there's nothing to stop you switching policies halfway through and you could savea bundle, you never know??

Probably it may cost you in terms of NCB but that doesn't really seem to be making much difference anyway........If you don't ask you'll never know?

It would be interesting to see what sort of figures we can come up with on my new address. As I said, I've been quoted around £950 in my new address when I move, hopefully next week, so maybe we could save me a few quid! I really don't understand how or why my quotes are so much, I paid £2550 on my 2004 1.9JTD Alfa GT last year, but it all seems to point at my address.

Just changed my address with my insurance company... It's now £51 per month. I can't believe how much it's come down. So I'm saving £153 per month... That's my council tax covered.
