Hi all, im new to the VAG scene after selling my 200sx and buying a 1.9tdi. First of all I am very impressed by the economy of it! I can get from work to home averaging 58mpg. I mapped the car at work and its now running 150BHP with 360Nm which im very happy with but im getting used to it now and want a bit more poke. Torque is good but I want to up the power a bit. What sort of turbo upgrades are common on the b5 1.9?

I`m not sure of a different turbo but a hybrid is allways the best if you have the money and a custom map. After 270bhp S70R I`m looking into some power ups whatever I buy too.

Ive been told the GTB1756vk is what I need to go for on the 1.9TDi. Does anybody know of one for sale?

Do you have a PD or VE engine ? Both respond rather well to tuning but they need supporting mods in order to get silly power reliably. The gtb1749vk is a nice little turbo but very rare to find. BV43 also is a good candidate or either BV50 or GTB2260Vk. I would stay away from hybrids as they are a poor match most of the time and prone to "boost creep" hence why most turbines are clipped. One thing to note with a diesel is to keep the torque low under 2000rpm's if you want to keep the engine and gearbox in one piece. Boost spikes are difficult to control with smaller turbos and most come on boost too soon causing clutch slip. If you're chasing ultimate power then gtb2260vk is the one to go for, if you want a nice daily driver gtb1756vk or bv43. As i said in your other post a bv50 is also a good compromise, spools as fast as the gt1749 turbo you have at the moment ! The GTB/bv series are the latest generation turbochargers with improved turbine and compressor wheels...
