I have had a A4 1.8tfsi for about 10 months and I wasnt too impressed with the volume of fuel usage when I got it but love the car so I have been battling on but its getting to the stage where I am getting 60-70 mile for £20 worth of fuel and seem to average low 20mpg.Now before I get rid of this due to being so expensive to run has anyone any idea how I might find out if things are running as they should in the car because I really dont want to sell it especially as I will lose money on as well as really enjoy it.I would be gutted if I did sell it and find out something was effecting it and it could of been detected..
anyhelp would be great

If you can get someone to scan it with VCDS and post the codes?

Hi, I have the same issue with my 1.8tfsi 120bhp model. Roughly getting around 25 to 30mpg. Would a remap help this issue much?

Probably not, it needs scanned meantime change the air and fuel filters and check all the vacuum pipes are tight and not cracked or split

An often overlooked cause of low mpg is low tyre pressure, have you checked them recently?

Satty A4 mine is the 160 but the problem with me is I work about 4 miles from work and have a load of lights on the way but I work throughout the day round the doors so I think will be the biggest issue but I have it booked in to have the VCDS checked for £35 and the guy at garage has suggested its worth looking at something in the exhaust or what volume something asks for in regards of fuel(unfortunately Im electrically biased so know very little about cars)
But overdose you might of hit a issue my tyre pressures are particularly low at the moment on all four tyres so this could be causing an issue too thanks

Overdose thanks for the advice I am ashamed to say when I checked my visibly ok looking tyre pressure it was 14 in both backs and 20 in the front.I put them to 30 in all I know I need to check what they should be properly but it have made a huge difference already getting 30 +mpg instantly giving me at least 20 miles for £20 ...
thanks again :-)

Hi geordie 1, Also just checked my tyre pressures and the rear ones needed more air. Now I achieve around 32 mpg :) still thinking of the remap as a Christmas present to myself :)

SattyA4 I am really tempted to do the same but got a few worries that it may damage something or make the mpg worse...but it would be nice to get a bit quicker....

I have a 2012 tfsi 120. Now has 5k under its belt and my average over that is only 29.7. On a run on the motorway I can see low 30's at best cruising at 70-75. Took it back to Audi and he said they had taken it out and managed to get it to 45mpg at 55mph, the trip computer didn't agree here!

Either way I need to check the tyre pressures and see how I get on, anyone know the pressure needed in the 19" rotor arm design ones? Ashamed to say I haven't checked them at all, rather assumed Audi would when it went to be looked at.

I must admit I flirted with selling mine to get a BMW m135i as people seem to be getting 30's easy and in to the 40's cruising with 320bhp! Will probably just get mine remapped at some point though.

There is a sticker on the border of the drivers door listing the tyre pressures for all the tyre sizes.
For normal loads on the 19" pretty sure it is 36psi front, 35psi rear, full loads the rear is way up in the 40psi region.

Well it wasn't the tyres! They were all spot on apart from the rear right that was at 31psi. Whilst that is a bit of a drop not sure it would be responsible for any significant losses?
