Hi all. I had my new clutch and dmf fitted today. And noticed I now have a rattle when turning left that I didn't have before. Its mainly noticeable when moving slowly, eg in car parks, it's only when turning left, and only when moving, it doesn't do it if I move the wheel when stationary. I am going to ring the garage tomorrow, but does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Sounds like a CV joint has got upset about being removed. Who did the job?

My local vw and Audi specialist in hudds. Would this be a difficult thing to sort? Get rid of one rattle and pick up another!

Impossible to say, could be anything. It needs identifying first to see if it is a coincidence or something they have caused.

Thanks for your help. I have just taken it to the garage and apparently it was a heatshield under the car catching on something, he apologised and took it all apart and put it back together again and it's fine now. Was just worrying as many years ago on a previous car I had the clutch changed, it came back with a really whiny power steering pump. They swore blind it was nothing they had disturbed, but it was perfect when it went in! so I was thinking oh here we go again lol

Oh and one more question...with my old clutch, near the top of the travel of the pedal, even in neutral, there was a point where the Revs would increase slightly. Sure I read somewhere this was to protect the dmf, my new clutch doesn't do this, although works perfectly in every other way and is the same part as the one taken out - is this a problem?

What year is your car and how many miles?
Sounds like the lower ball joints.

On later models I think they made changes to the ball joints. My previous car was a MY08 B8 and at around 75K miles I had this problem with same noises as u describe at low speed when turning. Audi replaced the ball joints and it fixed the problem.

That change in RPM is from the ECU detecting the pedal position by the pedal switch so maybe the switch has failed.

Thanks, is this a problem though if everything else works perfectly?

It can cause the car to hold its revs during gear change and it may make the cruise control malfunction. It is unlikely to come up as a fault code, the operation has to be observed in measuring blocks, about group 067 if I remember rightly.

Thanks again. Funnily enough I have checked again today, and the revs are increasing as normal again today! So problem solved!
