Please can anyone tell me how to access the relays on a Fabia mk2 2008.
I think one that contols the wipers (front) has an intermittent fault and I cant find the relay!

Thank you

Usually under the panel in the drivers footwell

The relay is part of the on board supply control unit or "J519 - Vehicle voltage control unit " as Skoda call it, other people call them body modules, they have lots of names. I sometimes call them central electrics units.

thank you Crasher, that explains why i cant find them! is there any serviceable parts in there?

ok guys, for future reference, the problem was a poor earth. sorted now. also be aware that intermittent doesnt
work with bonnet open, other settings ok.

On other late models such as the Golf 5, no wiper functions are available with the bonnet open, I will have to check that as I am not sure on the Fabia 2.

mmmm there seems to be a few issues on the web rethese boxes (j519) and wipers.
The car is completely stock, no mods. Seems I will have to get it scanned to home in on this intermittent fault.
One thread refers to checking earth from J519 to battery. What colour wire are we looking for.
I feel knackered without a manual or wiring diagram to refer to.

The manual or wiring diagram is one thing to be short of, not having a diagnostic system to see switch inputs and run the motor via output tests is a shortage you are not even aware of.

sorry, don't understand.

If you do not have a diagnostic system such as a full and registered copy of VCDS you are really going to struggle to solve this. The diagnostic system allows you to watch the switch inputs to make sure they make sense, even down to the bonnet switch, and the output test functions allows the wiper motor to be operated from the computer without the switch so proving/disproving any theory over the wiring, control unit or motor.

ok, thank you, I will get it scanned asap.

just a thought, but fearing the worst, how much are we talking about if this control box is fubar'ed?

The on board supply control unit is about £280 plus fitting and plus coding.

gulp!...here's hoping its not that then!

scan completed and no faults found!

What about studying of the measuring block switch commands and the direct operation of the motor in output tests?

switches responded as necessary when moved between different settings and voltage dropped from 12.2 to 12.1 when switched on.

Did the motor run in output tests?

I don't think that was tried but can't be sure. New motor now ordered so will update after fitting. Not 100% sure yet it is the motor at fault but everything else seemed to test ok so fingers crossed! At least the control panel didn't show faults.

OK, new wiper motor been on a couple of days, all seems fine so far but no rain for a 'prolonged' test. Thanks for the replies and help.
