hi all Im new to this site. hi have had a look round the forum and you guys seem to have a considerable wealth of knowledge. I have a becker be6305 dvd navi and its playing up I have changed the laser and still nothing. so I was wondering if I could either change the dvd mechanism to a hard drive or upgrade the dvd player to one of the newer ones that have sd card slots . its from a 2003 a8 mmi 2g high with latest firmware 4L0-998-961. anh info will be of a great help

the one with sd card slots wont work - thats for mmi 3g
you need AUDI A4 A5 A6 A8 Q5 Q7 MMI 2G SATELLITE NAVIGATION DVD DRIVE UNIT 4E0 919 887 C | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-A4-A5-A6-A8-Q5-Q7-MMI-2G-SATELLITE-NAVIGATION-DVD-DRIVE-UNIT-4E0-919-887-C-/160912325500?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item25771f3b7c) for the replacement drive
have you been using copied discs by any chance?

Can you put a slot-load laptop/iMac drive in it?
Does it use a standard drive inside?

I think I need to replace my dvd drive also- getting an error message now despite power to the drive. Are these drives an easy swop? I spoke to an audio visual specialist suggested to me by my local audi who mentioned each unit is coded, and would need recoding in order to work with your vehicle. Is this true? Would appreciate any knowledge available on a DIY swap; also where best to source? Ebay has plenty available, but £300-500 is not what I consider a good deal for repairing an occasionally used satnav feature...

If you're planning to change the unit, on the basis that you've got nothing to loose I would suggest having a go at cleaning the laser and the disc.....if you haven't already! I've brought plenty of cd/dvd palyers back to life over the years with a cotton bud and some of the wifes nail varnish remover!
