Hi all,

Thought I'd say hello & ask my 1st question.

My 2006 Audi A4 2.0 Tdi has the yellow 'engine' light on, the engine seems to have gone into 'limp' mode, although the engine sometimes picks up & seems to drive ok. Usually picks up in 3rd, but can be ok in 1st (from about 3000 rpm in each gear). Manual states that this is an emission fault.

I have ordered a fault code reader so will look at the codes first, once it arrives.

Any ideas in advance would be much appreciated.

Thanks for looking in.

Bob

no point in guessing until it gets the codes read

could be anything.

OK thanks Chris, thought it was worth an ask!

Hi Bob, mine was doing exactly the same thing during the summer, turned out to be a new EGR. It was that far gone, so got it replaced & it's driving 100% now. Not saying that's what your fault is but sounds familiar.

Thanks Graeme, just waiting for my fault code tool to arrive & I will post up the codes found.

Right then, code reader arrived, scanned for codes, but none present, disconnected the reader & engine light was not lit any more! Still got intermittent loss of power though. Think it may be a turbo problem. Any ideas?

Bob

I was pointed towards the turbo when my mmissions management light came on & it turned out to be the intercooler which is quite a commomn failure on this enginew worth checking it's not split and all the pipes connected with it.

Had codes scanned @ local garage & found code P0403, (which does not appear in my code book) Apparently it points towards the EGR valve solenoid, which has been replaced, but fault is still present. Original solenoid has been re-fitted now.

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks,

Bob

Not sure whether I'm right in saying Bob, but apparantly the EGR valve (if that's what it could be) can be cleaned with oven cleaner to sort it out. Saying that, when mine went, it was that bad I had to replace it! Cost me 200 smackaroonies but the car's driving well! I had bought a fault code reader off eBay & just kept putting the light out, ended up a bad move.

Why don't you just remove your EGR?

Some people on here have done it.

It's looking like the £200 repair at the moment :-S.

Thanks for your input guys.

Turns out the EGR valve was fine & clean, however the throttle valve had stripped teeth on the black nylon actuation gear, thus it wasn't opening/closing the valve correctly.

All fixed now!!

Thanks for all your help
