Can anyone advise: Got a 2004 MK5 1.9SE Golf with Plastic 4 spoke steering wheel. Want to upgrade to a Leather wheel (3 spoke) think its from the GT as standard . Being told I also need to change the AirBag (£375!!) as well. Can anyone confirm or advise. Are there any other companies apart from VW parts that could supply me .
Cheers. cofused!!

Most steering wheels come without the center part (horn push with badge on) this also contains the airbag.
Your 4 spoke airbag (whole center section) will obviously not fit a 3 spoke wheel, so you either need to buy a new (eBay etc) airbag or get a 4 spoke leather wheel from another VAG car.

*THERE ARE MORE THAN ONE TYPE OF FIXINGS ON STEERING WHEELS / AIRBAGS, SO MAKE SURE THEY MATCH*

Does anybody know how interchangable VAG steering wheels are?Obviously the amount of spokes is a consideration, but would Audi/VW wheels fit a Skoda octavia?
I want to replace my hideous plastic wheel for something thicker and with better feel so it would be nice to know what options are available,im thinking maybe Audi TT or Golf R32 etc.
Any advice much appreciated.

The mk5 Golf, Passat etc wheels will fit, not sure about the TT tho'.

Brilliant! Just won myself a Mk 4 Golf GTI 3 spoke wheel on ebay for £21!

All I need now is the correct airbag to fit it......:aargh4:

Is it tricky changing wheel and airbag etc on Mk5 Golf. Any special skills , tools , etc needed. Does it have to be hooked up to vw computer in order to clear any fault lights etc.

No,its not difficult really. Finally got round to fitting my Mk4 Gold GTI wheel to my Octavia today, and the whole job took a couple of hours.
Everything worked fine afterwards, and my worries regarding the radio code etc were unfounded, even the presets remained.
