Hi guys,
can anyone help my car is b8 a4 3.0 tdi quattro s line, the dpf has become blocked as i didnt get it on a long run in time and its gone into limp mode with coil light and engine management lights on the dash!!!
ive tried a force re gen no look then had it cleaned by a garage which assures me it is clean and they have tried changing the sensors but it wont let them get it out of limp on the computer. The guy assures me he has the vag com but has no idea why it wont let him take it out of limp!!!! help any ideas!!!

I find I can't do this with VAG-COM or the later VCDS (which is probably what he has) and I have to use VAS-PC, the dealer level tool. If the restriction is over a certain percentage (this varies) the ECU will not allow a forced regen and a new filter has to be fitted so the ash mass and soot loading values can be set to zero. If a DPF that is badly blocked is forced to regenerate by cheating (I will not say how this is done) then there is a significant chance that the car will catch fire.

o nooooo!! so what shall i do i have just booked it in to vag teknik do you think they will have the right equipment??
the garage who told me they hav cleaned the dpf said it was at 40 % and now when he put it back on it reads 20% he syas its clean but cant get out limp!! so thats why trying vag teknik was gonna be the next move?????

That should regen, the one I had a refusal on the other day was at 90%! I have no idea what VAG Teknik have or which one they are, every town and city in the UK seems to have a specialist with that or a similar name, but they may have found a way with VCDS or like me, use VAS PC which I find easier. It did an Octavia VRS the other day that was 51% blocked and I think we covered half of Nottingham in smoke, one lorry even hooted at us going the other way.

Have to ask, is most of your driving around town? I'm guessing you do a lot of short runs, and rarely get on a run of 5+ miles? I ask because I have this car too..and even when I've spent a whole week driving around town, and sat in traffic for hours I've never been able to not get the car to do a regen (and never seen the dash warning for it either).

if it is only 20% restricted and the ash level is below the maximum, it should go into regen but as I said, I have had trouble getting VCDS to do this. I have one to do in the morning.

VCDS is a diagnostic program that use to be called VAG-COM. I am supposed to be doing an A3 this morning (so far he is 15 minutes late) and if he does bother to turn up I will give the VCDS method another go if there is time.
