Remaps: Best recommendation for A6 3.0tdi le mans Quattro

Hi all,

I pulled out at the last minute yesterday to get my car remapped for tomorrow as one of my friends said that the options for remapping have increased quite a lot since I last remapped my last car 5 years ago.

I was going to go to AMD Technik in Essex, the price is £499 for my car includes rolling road before and after. I have been told that there are others who will do the exact same or better perhaps minus the rolling road..

Any stories or recommendations as I really wanted to do it and do it right the first time and I want to do it for next week. If AMD Technik are the best ones I will re book it but I really want to know your recommendations.

I have used simon at E-Maps Home - Performance car ECU chip tuning and mobile engine remaps (www.e-maps.co.uk)

Simon remapped my Touareg for £300 a.couple of years ago, he is based in the middlands and will travel to you, or as I did meet him somewhere he.is doing another map.

Simon will reload maps for free if for any reason the dealer overwrites the remap.

In my case I handed the car back to the dealer after six months and Simon put.the.original map back in for free and offered me a free remap on my next car.

The process takes about half an hour and Simon will clean up afterwards and remove all the errors codes generated durring the remap as the ECU loses communication with the various bits of the car and logs a failt code, this is normal, but a lot of places dont clean up afterwards and pop goes any warranty the car had.

I am in Essex but was willing to travel to a recommend guy.

My 3:0L Le Mans will be done by Simon at E-Maps i wouldn't trust anyone else.

As I have said in your other thread about this I have had a Revo remap on my 3.0TDI. I used my local specialist (Linc VW | Proud To Be Independent (http://www.lincoln-vw.co.uk/)) who is a Revo agent. The deal I had was, if I didn't like it I could have it removed and have a refund. Because of other work that I had done I negotiated a price of £380. Best money I have ever spent on a car !.

I went with Flash Remaps on Saturday recommended from the forum. Car is so much quicker, more responsive and aggressive from 45mph upwards its just goes on and on.

The guy that did the remap did one previously and had the dyno records on it and it showed that the car is 283 on the dyno and 415nm..

The more I drive it the smoother and faster it becomes, I am impressed with the how responsive it has become too.

Do you have any numbers/details on your revo map?

Flash remaps did it for £275 which I thought was a very good price.

My impression on here and from other sources is that the 3.0TDI is usually a strong performer on the dyno as standard. Although after the remap my impressions have been as yours, the best benefit after several weeks of use I find is the much improved mid-range/part throttle pick up. No longer do I have to regularly use S mode on the 'box to overtake, either just squeeze the accelerator (if above about 1600rpm) or flick down a gear on the paddles to achieve the same engine speed and 'squeeze' (not floor) the go pedal. The effect is instantanious !.

The standard engine map is supposed to be 'dynamic', adjusting to use. As you have found with your remap, the Revo remap learns your driving style and adjusts accordingly. The Revo website gives the following output figures:

I have the same query. I'd like to get my 3.0 tdi remapped. Is a Dyno map still the best option? I would need a place with a 4wd Dyno of course...

Depends on several factors, furfurfur. What you want to achieve with your remap; what or who is available to you locally (unless you are prepared to travel) and how much you are willing to spend.

Personally, although the 3.0TDI is a pokey motor as standard, I wanted more mid range urge, for overtakes and traffic lights, with the benefit of an improvement in fuel consumption when being light footed (very rare !). I had experience of the same effect on my previous car (2.2HDI(136) Citroen). As the figures in my post above about Revo show, the improvement in 'headline' figures are about 10-20 per cent. The actual benefit is more noticeable through the extra urge in the lower and mid range. Most dyno torque and power graphs for mapping show this. Other products, as others say on here, give similar results.

If you are after better improvements you will need to consider other upgrades to help the engine pass more air, quicker. A diesel is, in effect, a glorified air(oxygen) pump, the more air(oxygen) you can cram in the cylinder, the more fuel can be injected to burn that oxygen. To do this the use of a Dyno to set you power and torque outputs as you want them would be beneficial.

As I understand it the engine (and tiptronic gearbox, as I have) ecus are 'dynamic' computers, learning and reacting to your current driving style. The garage who did mine are very knowledgeable about this, prep'ing and racing various VAG models. They say (and they probable would as they sell it) that the Revo remap is also dynamic, adapting to conditions (accelerator pedal, engine speed, road speed, gear selection, atmospherics, etc.). They use a version of it as part of their race prep.

I would suggest taking one step at a time. Find a reputable remapper (not plug in 'piggy back' module), have you car remapped, try it. If you need more, look at improving breathing, air filter and exhaust. If fine tuning of your desired 'performance envelope' is required go to a Road Dynomometer outlet (usually also race prep facilities) and spend time (and money) getting the setup right. As you say, you will need a 4wd Dyno....

Thanks for your comprehensive reply. There does seem to be quite a lot to choose from. What I am looking for at the moment is economy during normal low revs driving, but more power on kickdown. Sounds somewhat like what you have at the moment :)

Will make some calls next week and hopefully find someone I trust with the car :)
