Has nobody else had this problem at all? its now 95% of time dodgy but as its about 5 degrees outside and snow now. So its not a good time to strip to bits just to take a quick look, rather get part and do it all in one go.

Hi There

I had this problem with my A4 passenger door earlier this year.

I came across this thread, http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?... (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?81759-Tdi-sport-drivers-door-won-t-open-from-outside/page2)

Basically there was an idea (don't know if true) that the locking mechanism had somehow become unsynchronised, so that the outside handle wasn't at the same position as the inside handle. The solution was to keep on opening, closing, and unlocking and re-locking the door so that they become synchronised again.

It sounded daft to me, but I tried it, and haven't had a single issue since!

Also, be careful when opening doors, I believe this problem can be caused when, say, a passenger has their hand on the handle pulling it, just as you have the unlocking button pressed.
I always make sure my passengers don't touch the handles until I have definitely unlocked the car now!

It's worth trying for free anyway!

OK for anyone who is interested the problem is now fixed, after many of hours on the net i found part numbers. 8J2837016A. on youtube i found a guy showing pics of removing the door card doorpannel remove audi a4 B8 - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&v=PIC3SsFl_Uk) this proved usefull, if your handy with the spanners then this is a diy job. The main problem i had was refiting the new part as the door handle lock is on a short metal bar with plastic locating pin which you need to locate almost blind into the mechanism, this took me about an hour on its own lol. The part was £90 trade from tps but was quoted £99 from main dealer. Tps say this is a very common part to be sold as its used throughout the vag group. (nice little money maker)

hope this helps someone.
cheers Rob.
