I have a 1998 A4 1.9tdi and the turbo seems not to be working at present. The Airmass flow meter was replaced a few years ago and this fault has happened before (15months ago), lasted for about a week, then rectified itself. Basically the car power is very flat but otherwise goes ok. the only other clue is that when the engine is hot and you restart it, you get the revs flying up to 2500-3000 revs before dropping back down to idle, and a plume of diesel out the back. I have spoken to audi and they are clueless.

Can anyone advise on the course of action? Hopefully without costing thousands!

This could be the turbo oil seal, allowing oil to build up in the turbo, that acts like fuel when you re-start causing the engine racing.

I've since had the car on the audi computer and the faults were the wastegate controller and the fuel shutoff valve.

Inlet manifold change over valve and fule cut off valves replaced and car seems as good as new. Total cost £90: £50 to put it on computer and £40 for the fuel valve. Manifold valve was free gift from Bath Audi garage :beerchug:

Anyone got any experience of chipping turbo diesels? I'd like to up the HP to 110 from 90.
