Hi,
How do the B7 TDI's compare to the B6 TDI's when it comes to oil consumption?
My B6 is pretty thirsty and wondered if I still need to stock up with 507.00 (If that's the same oil used of course)

I've seen one or 2 say there doesn't seem to be any consumption but that seems to good to be true. :p

Any comments on your findings will be of great interest.
Thanks
Chris

Not the same car but for what it's worth I have a B6 2003 Audi A4 with a 1.9 TDI engine and it drinks about 1 litre of oil per 10k miles.

I also have a Skoda Octavia with a 2.0 TDI PD from 2008 which hasn't needed a top up in 20k miles.

I have no idea why this is but that's my experience.

I have a 1.6 TDi B7 and it appears to have used nothing in the last 10K miles.

Sounds positive so far!
Any word on the B7 2.0 TDI's drinking habits? :D

Just turned 10k and a year old. had the first service and not toped up. the previous B6 did use a little maybe 250ml in 10k miles. i believe a lot is based on how they are diven during the first 1000 miles my last 3 passats have been kept below 2000rpm until passing 1000 miles. and none of them have used any amount of oil. my first one a 52 plate is still in the family the last i saw it had over 500k on the clock and still only needs less than half a litre in 10k miles.

MY 140TDI BMT Sport has used about 250ml in 16K and 4K of that was towing a 1400kg caravan. My previous B6 140 Sport used 1 Litre in 10 K towing.

Very very interesting this guys and sounds very promising!
I assume the oil spec (507.00) is the same for the B7 diesels is it?
Thanks guys

Chris

Yep make sure you buy the correct oil.

Vw sell Castrol labelled as Quantum from the dealers which is reasonably priced and meets the correct spec.

Thanks guys that's really put a smile on my face.
If all goes well with my 2.0 TDI 140 bluemotion it'll be great not having to top up with 507.00 nearly as often as the B6.
May even save a few quid! :beerchug:

My new B7 is now on 14K and the oil level hasn't moved.
The old 2.0TDI B6 always needed at least one top up between services and would never have made it to 14K without the low oil light.
As a bonus feature you can actually read the dipstick on this one!

Thanks sugarbeet!
That was something I wondered about regarding the dipstick.
So what colour is it at the level? A nice bright colour like yellow by any chance??? :biglaugh:

It's a great technological leap forward alright. But alas it's not yellow.18172

At 44k miles now on 61plate, not had to topped up before 20k or 40k service.
