Hi all. There's a small chance I might be in a position to buy a nicely specced new Audi next year and so I've gone into dreamer mode and started playing with the configuration tool on the Audi website building myself some nice cars to choose between. Finding the money might be another issue, but we'll leave that to one side for a minute.
What I noticed was that although I was initially drawn straight to the RS4 due to all the sporty bells and whistles, the performance figures for torque compare really badly to the 3.0 TDi engine in the A4 range. So for the RS4 peak torque is 430Nm up at 4000 to 6000 rpm but for the diesel engine the torque is 500Nm at a far more accessible 1400 to 3250 rpm. I'm no expert but im guessing this means that in everyday driving the diesel A4 is more likely to have instant "get up and go" available more often when you boot it, instead of having to wait for the V8 to wind up in the RS4. Oh and the diesel A4 has almost double the mpg of the RS4 and costs about £15k less when loaded up with the bells and whistles.
So, umm... I'm wondering why I would buy an RS4 - apart from the boy racer appeal of that badge and styling..? Thoughts?
