Evening all. Got 21's on my new Q7. Tyres were pretty worn and picked up from a friend a set of 21" new Continental CrossContact UHP's for £800 (cost).
I ordered 295/35/21's but got 295/40/21's so 5% higher sidewall.
As he has done me a favour and got me these cheaply can I use them or do I need to find someone to swap or sell them?
Appreciate 5% is not much and it will slightly alter the speedo, apart from a little bit of roll what would be the issues with fitting these?
They have LOADS of clearance in the arches, the speed rating etc are bob on, I have used these on a RRS and RR Vogue and like them.
I need to know if I have to go back to him and see if he can swap (and face embarrassment) or simply fit and expect a slightly softer ride.
Thank Q

forget it - just pulled the tyres from the boot, when standing the wheel up against the arch I think it might be too big.
Cheers.

295/40 21 will be fine.
many use 275/45 20 which are slightly taller still.
When you held against wheel you probably wasn't taking into account natural compression from weight of car.
Sorry reply is so late.

I would beg to differ......sure the 295 40s will fit but as the OP says they are way more than the recommended 2.5% maximum difference in diameter. As to the 275 45 20s, well they are actually smaller than the 295 40 21 not larger. Don't do it.

I'm sorry I meant many use 295/45 20 (instead of 275/45 20) and they are fine with absolutely no rubbing.
Also many many people put 22" on Range Rover Sports with 285/35 22 tyres and this set up is 4.3% bigger.
The 295/40 21 size is only 1.7% larger than the standard 275/45 20 and the recommended 295/35 21 is 2.2% less than the standard 275/45 20.

If they fitted, they're probably worn out by now.
