Map Sensor?

Hi to all...

My daughters 1998 VW Polo 1.4 has been cutting out/not starting sometimes - apparently someone who had a look at it diagnosed it as a map sensor problem, but apparently it can't be fixed! Is this true? Does she just bin the car now? Seems a bit extreme to me - I thought anything was fixable on a vehicle...

Just replace the map sensor on the intake manifold and clear the fault memory

Got any idea roughly how much a map sensor will cost, I can't seem to find one online anywhere? I take it this will have to come from an authorised VW dealer?

Not sure,but the vw parts will call it a thrust sensor as that is its description on etka parts software,even though we call it map sensor.
