Hi All,

This may have been asked before but I'd be interested in peoples long distance range before th elight comes on when cruising on motorways/A roads.

We do a journey fairly often that is just under 500 miles round trip. Its all motorway / A road and if I stick to the limits I can do it in my own 3.0 TDI with about 20 miles to spare (low fuel warning goes off about 20 miles from home) and equates to just over 40mpg. This is better than my old B7 3.0 TDI which only managed this once and was on fumes!

I'd be interested in what people can do with the other engines as when I change the car next it would be great if I had another 100 miles to play with.

As an aside even with car showing 15 miles when I filled up today I only manage to put in 56 litres - so nearly 2 gallons left. On shorter motorway runs at 60-65 I can get 44+ but on long journeys this gets a bit tedious.

Cheers

Dave

Even when driving fruitfully at times, my 2.0tdi 170 gets about 630 to a tank...

I've had 750.2 miles from my mapped 2.0 tdi and refuelled to the brim clicking a few times to get her topped up and she only managed around 71.8 litres iirc.
At 51.2 mpg at the time this equates to another 104 miles or thereabouuts giving a total of 854 miles

We have just returned from a drive to Salou from Stoke on Trent, our car is A6 2.7TDI S Line 2006 and it used a tank and a half of diesel for the 1176 mile journey which I thought was very good

Interestingly the recently updated engines in the A4 (including the 245PS version of my engine) claim much better figures (e.g. combined 47.9 vs 41.5 for the 3.0TDI, 58.9 vs. 51.4 for 2.tdi 170/177) but at the same time they have reduced the fuel tank from 64 to 61 litres. On the A6 you can now request a 75 litre tank as an option over the standrad 65l (assume it uses up boot space).

I get about 520-530 on a non stop drive, just gets me to the doorstep as it has 0 miles left. A lot better than my B7 3.2 with only 430 miles!!

I get some miles. Occasionally. I've learned not to look at the numbers as it's too depressing and just concentrate on having fun. I actually managed to do a 150 mile trip recently at 31mpg which is a record for me ;)

Car is averaging 23mpg over the 3 years I've had it.......

(I think the best I ever managed was 400 miles on a tank)
